Job Description and Duties

Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 19 and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. Part-time employees are subject to the same conditions as full-time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time-base. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full-time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period.

California State Prison, Los Angeles County (LAC) is located in Lancaster, CA, which is 45 miles north of Los Angeles, CA.

Examinees eyes and corrects defects by use of lenses, prisms, or eye exercises, without the application of medical and surgical techniques; determines the accommodative and refractive states of the eye and the scope of its function in general; measures the powers of vision and determines the adaptation of lenses for aiding vision; uses a retinoscope, ophthalmometer, phoropter, Snellen chart, and other aids for the measurement and correction of vision; prescribes, fits, adjusts, and repairs glasses; instructs ancillary medical staff in techniques and methods; keeps records, prepares reports, and dictates correspondence; maintains order and supervises the conduct of persons committed to the Department of Corrections; prevents escapes and injury by these persons to themselves, others or to property; maintains security of working areas and work materials; inspects premises and searches inmates for contraband, such as weapons or illegal drugs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Possession of a valid license to practice optometry in the State of California. Two years of experience in the practice of optometry.

This Part Time position will be working 20 hours per week. The monthly part-time salary range for this position is $3,891.50 to $5,159.50.
