    Job Description

    Optometrist- full time Monday-Friday. No evenings or weekends

    Location: Community Vision Center -  Allentown, PA

    Job Summary:  The Optometrist will be responsible for the care, direction, and progression of patient care in the area of general Optometry in the outpatient setting of the Community Vision Center within Valley Health Partners Community Health Center (VHP). Responsible for offering high quality eye and vision care with thorough examination and comprehensive treatments. Conducts eye exams using optometric equipment and general diagnostic interpretation. Diagnoses and treats ocular disease. Prescribes, fits, and adjusts eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids. Directs staff and assists in the development of the overall practice.

    Minimum qualifications: Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited optometry program. 

    Preferred qualifications: Two years’ of optometrist experience, preferred. More than two years’ of optometrist experience in a medically needed and underserved community in a Community Health Center or Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), preferred.
     
    Training: Board Certification in Optometry

    Licensure / Certifications: Current PA Optometry license.  Willingness to obtain CPR Certification upon hire. 
     
    Essential Functions
     
    • Ensures all patients of the community health center receive an accurate diagnosis and appropriate recommendations to guarantee all visual lifestyle needs are addressed.
    • Conducts eye exams using optometric equipment and general diagnostic interpretation.
    • Diagnoses and treats ocular diseases and injuries.
    • Prescribes, fits, and adjusts eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids.
    • Answers questions and provides advice to patients regarding vision and optical issues.
    • Treats medical disorders that affect the vision through a holistic approach.
    • Promotes eye health by teaching patients about proper eye care techniques.
    • Identifies and assesses eye defects and diseases such as diabetes and live failure.
    • Records all diagnosis and treatment plans including transfers and therapeutic prescriptions.
    • Acts a clinical leader for residents, medical students, and support staff.
    • Directs staff and assists in the development of the overall practice.

     

    Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

    • Floats to other locations as assigned based on business needs.
