    Optometrist - Traveling Opportunity - Rural Alaska


    We are looking for an adventure-seeking Optometrist who is ready to take their career beyond the traditional exam lane!


    This unique opportunity combines meaningful patient care with travel throughout rural and remote Alaska, reaching communities by vehicle, ferry, or small plane. It is an ideal position for a flexible, resourceful provider who enjoys the outdoors and wants to make a lasting difference in communities with limited access to eye care.


    Practice Highlights

    • Mobile eye care serving approximately 30 communities throughout Alaska
    • Dedicated support team assists with travel logistics, patient coordination, and referrals
    • All examination equipment is transported and set up within each community
    • Maximum of 16 patients per day
    • Doctor completes the patient workup and examination
    • Optician support for eyeglasses, frame selection, and insurance


    Schedule

    • Opportunity to travel monthly or every other month
    • Trips typically last 10-14 days
    • Minimum commitment of 10 days per trip
    • Longer assignments are available
    • Approximately 2-4 days spent in each community
    • Typical hours are 9:00 AM-6:00 PM
    • One-hour lunch, typically beginning at 1:00 PM


    Compensation + Benefits

    • 1099 compensation of $850 per day
    • $50 daily food allowance
    • All travel expenses covered


    Ideal Candidate

    • Comfortable practicing independently without a technician
    • Confident, adaptable, and skilled at problem-solving
    • Comfortable traveling to rural and remote communities
    • Enjoys the outdoors and is prepared for Alaska’s changing weather conditions
    • Able to transport equipment bags weighing up to approximately 50 pounds
