Job Title: OR Tech / Surgical Tech
Location: Santa Rosa, CA
Duration: 13-Week Contract
Schedule: Day Shift – 4x10-Hour (7:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
Guaranteed Hours: 40 Hours Weekly
Compensation:
- Traveler Pay: $40–$44/hour ($1,600–$1,760/week) based on experience
- Local Pay: $30–$32/hour ($1,200–$1,280/week) based on experience
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Operating Room (OR) Technician / Surgical Technician to support surgical teams in a fast-paced acute care environment. The ideal candidate will assist with surgical procedures, maintain sterile fields, prepare operating rooms and equipment, and collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and efficient patient care across a variety of surgical specialties.
Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures by ensuring all necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment are available and functioning properly.
- Establish and maintain sterile fields throughout surgical procedures.
- Assist surgeons and nursing staff during operations by anticipating procedural needs and passing instruments and supplies.
- Perform surgical counts according to facility protocols to ensure patient safety.
- Prepare, handle, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention, sterilization, and safety standards.
- Assist with patient positioning, preparation, and transport as needed.
- Maintain accurate documentation and communication with the perioperative team.
- Participate in on-call coverage and respond to urgent surgical needs as required.
- Float to other perioperative areas based on department needs.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program required.
Licensure & Certifications
- Current Surgical Technologist certification preferred.
- California state licensure preferred where applicable.
- Current BLS Certification required.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of recent Operating Room/Surgical Technology experience required.
- 5 years of experience preferred.
- Prior travel assignment experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered.
- Experience working in an acute care hospital setting required.
- Experience caring for adolescent, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patient populations preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique and surgical asepsis.
- Proficiency in handling surgical instruments and equipment.
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume surgical environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
- Ability to remain calm and focused during complex procedures.
- Flexibility to work weekends, take call, and float based on unit needs.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
