Job Title: Oracle OCI Cloud Engineer

Location: Richmond, VA (Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite / 2 Days Remote)
Duration: Long-Term Contract
Interview Process: 1–2 Technical Interview Rounds followed by a 2-hour onsite hands-on technical assessment (machine test) at Richmond Headquarters.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Oracle OCI Cloud Engineer to design, implement, administer, and support enterprise Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) environments. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise across Oracle databases, middleware, OCI services, automation, and cloud architecture while ensuring high availability, security, and optimal performance of mission-critical systems.

This role requires participation in an on-call support rotation and the ability to provide after-hours and weekend support for planned maintenance, patching, upgrades, deployments, and critical production issues.

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and administer Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) environments.
  • Manage Oracle databases, middleware, compute, storage, networking, and OCI services.
  • Develop, deploy, and support Oracle APEX applications and ORDS services.
  • Configure, administer, patch, and maintain Oracle WebLogic Server environments.
  • Plan and execute Oracle database upgrades, migrations, and platform conversions.
  • Implement backup, recovery, cloning, and replication strategies using RMAN and Oracle Data Guard.
  • Perform Oracle Database PSU patching using Fleet Maintenance
  • Configure and maintain Container Databases (CDB) and Pluggable Databases (PDB).
  • Monitor database health, identify performance bottlenecks, and implement tuning recommendations.
  • Automate administration tasks using Shell scripting, GitLab, and Ansible.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, application development, and DevOps teams to support deployments and production operations.
  • Ensure compliance with Oracle security best practices and organizational standards.
  • Produce technical documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge transfer materials.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and provide timely resolution for critical incidents.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience administering Oracle technologies in enterprise environments.
  • Extensive experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and related cloud services.

Work Schedule & Support Expectations

Hybrid work schedule: 3 days onsite and 2 days remote.
Participation in a rotating 24x7 on-call support schedule is required.
Availability during evenings and weekends for:
Planned maintenance windows
Oracle database patching
WebLogic maintenance
OCI infrastructure updates
Emergency production support
Flexibility to work after business hours based on operational requirements and project workload.

Qualifications

Required Technical Skills

  • Oracle Application Express (APEX) 18.x and higher
  • Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS) 22.x and higher
  • Oracle WebLogic Server 14c (Fusion Middleware and WebLogic Suite)
  • Oracle Database 19c and Oracle Database 26ai
  • Container Database (CDB) and Pluggable Database (PDB) architectureProven experience upgrading Oracle Database environments from 19c to 26ai.
  • Strong Linux/Unix administration skills, including Shell scripting.

Experience with:

  • PDB cloning
  • RMAN backup and recovery
  • Oracle Data Guard
  • Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) 24ai
  • Oracle Fleet Maintenance and PSU patching
  • Oracle Database as a Service (DBaaS) within OCI
  • Hands-on experience using GitLab and Ansible for automation and deployment.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong understanding of cloud architecture and cloud-native design principles.
Experience designing and implementing High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions.
Experience monitoring Oracle environments using Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control.
Familiarity with container technologies such as:
Docker
Kubernetes
Proficiency in Python and JavaScript scripting.
Strong understanding of Oracle database security best practices.
Experience with database performance tuning and optimization.
Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins or GitLab CI.
Understanding of microservices architecture and API integrations.
Preferred Certifications

One or more Oracle certifications are highly desirable:

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Professional (OCIP)
Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)
Oracle Certified Expert (OCE)
