Summary

  • Provides a variety of clerical and patient support activities for Carson Tahoe Cancer Resource Center. Coordinates the care and treatment of patients receiving Oral Chemotherapy. Responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the patient registration/demographic information obtained during each patient encounter. Ensures the completion of all documents required at point of patient access.

Qualifications

  • Required

o High school diploma or equivalent

o Minimum of two years' customer service experience or minimum two years' experience with medical office setting

o Medical terminology knowledge

o Medical billing/coding knowledge

o Experience working with payers and 3rd party vendors

o Knowledge/experience with chemotherapy

o Must possess strong verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills

Essential Functions

  • Ensures the accuracy of all patient information (demographics/insurance/pharmacy).
  • Efficiently communicates with patients on the phone to coordinate for their chemotherapy prescription(s).
  • Accurately tracks the status of every patient currently prescribed oral chemotherapy in order to maintain efficiency and report out on status of program and/or patients.
  • Ensures patients have signed all necessary paperwork including all required insurance forms for authorization of prescribed medications.
  • Ensures that authorizations are current and in place prior to scheduling patients for services.
  • Communicates effectively between various stakeholders central to the oral chemotherapy process including: clinic providers, specialty pharmacies (specifically pharmacies that insurance dictates), drug manufacturers and/or philanthropic agencies providing free or reduced drug opportunities for patients.
  • Works closely with other resource center employees to help cover various needs of the resource center patients i.e. community resources, gas cards, financial assistance, navigation, nutrition, social work, etc.
  • Demonstrates the ability to learn and use various computer programs to perform efficient scheduling and receptionist duties. This includes but is not limited to: Epic, Shoretel, Chartmaxx, Outlook, and Internet websites as appropriate and within the guidelines of department policy.
  • Follows and maintains office scheduling procedures to including but not limited to: maintaining and updating provider schedules, organizing appointment schedules on daily/weekly basis for optimum flow, and documenting all patient encounters appropriately in the Epic system.
  • Assesses and trouble shoots problems with patients, referring physicians and their staff. Independently makes decisions that fundamentally adhere to hospital and/or department protocols.
  • Independently demonstrates ability to provide and facilitate excellent customer service in all situations.
  • Acts as a mentor for new employees as they develop their skills & competencies related to daily job functions.
  • Act as liaison in coordination between patient, provider, scheduling, pharmacy, insurance companies and regulatory agencies.
  • Coordination with patient billing in regards to patient-responsible administration fees.
  • Content expert for oral pharmaceuticals and keeps up to date on new treatments as they become available.
  • Familiar with medical terminology.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite.
  • Attention to detail and organization.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
