Job Summary:
The Oral Surgery Dental Assistant will help surgeons during surgery by performing duties such as 4 hand dental assisting, CBCT X-rays, X-rays, chinning, recovery of GA, obtains vitals and dismissal of patients. Performs preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate patient care.
Duties/Responsibilities:
•Verifies the identity of patients and operative sites. Discusses with surgeon the nature of the surgical procedure including operative consent, methods of operative exposure, diagnostic and laboratory data, and patient-advanced directives and other needs.
• Greets patients professionally: properly rooms patients for Provider’s visit in a timely manner.
•Obtain vitals, enter into EMR, and start OP note.
•Take CBCT x-rays and dental x-rays•
Monitors and maintains aseptic technique throughout procedures.
•Coordinates or participates in the positioning of patients using body stabilizing equipment and protective padding to provide appropriate exposure for the procedure and to protect against nerve damage and circulation impairment.
•Maintains an unobstructed operative field using surgical retractors, sponges, and suctioning and irrigating equipment.
•Determines availability of necessary equipment and supplies for operative procedures. Obtains and inspects sterile or nonsterile surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies.
•Select and set up instruments, equipment and material needed
•Sterilize instruments according to regulations
•Undertake lab tasks as instructed
•Assists with patient resuscitation during cardiac arrest and other life-threatening events.
•Operates sterilizing devices. Monitors patient intra-operative status including patient position, vital signs
•Provide pre/post-operative care and instructions
•Track medical supply inventory and communicate when inventory is needing to be replenished
Required Skills/Abilities:
•Basic knowledge of medical/dental terminology.
•Superior listening skills with the ability to quickly comprehend instructions in emergency situations.
•Excellent manual dexterity.

Education and Requirements:
•OMSA certified. 5 years+ Experienced OMSA will receive offer at the higher end of salary range.
•Five years of related experience required
•BLS & X-ray Certificate
•Understanding of health & safety regulations
•Excellent communication and people skills
•High School diploma
•Dental Assistant Certification

Physical Requirements:
•Prolonged periods of standing, reaching, and bending. Body positioning: twisting, making repetitive motions, and using your hands.
•Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
•Must maintain a professional appearance at all times (uniform required)
