Oral Surgery Assistant
Location: Princeton Junction & Mercerville, NJ
Employment Type: Contract
Work Arrangement: Onsite (Split Schedule: 3 Days in Mercerville | 2 Days in Princeton Junction)
Compensation: $25.00–$28.00 per hour

Position Overview

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Oral Surgery Assistant for an onsite contract opportunity supporting two practice locations in Princeton Junction and Mercerville, New Jersey. This role is ideal for a motivated, dependable dental professional who thrives in a fast-paced surgical environment and is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care.

The ideal candidate has experience supporting oral surgery procedures, assisting with IV sedation and dental implants, maintaining clinical documentation, and ensuring a safe, efficient patient experience. While prior oral surgery experience is preferred, candidates with strong dental assisting experience and a current New Jersey X-Ray Certification are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

Surgical Assistance

  • Assist the oral surgeon during a variety of oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures.

  • Prepare treatment rooms, surgical instruments, and equipment prior to procedures.

  • Assist with dental implant procedures and other surgical treatments.

  • Support IV sedation procedures while maintaining patient safety and comfort.

  • Anticipate provider needs throughout surgical procedures to ensure efficient workflow.

Patient Care

  • Prepare patients for treatment and explain surgical procedures.

  • Provide post-operative instructions and answer patient questions.

  • Monitor patient comfort before, during, and after procedures.

  • Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care throughout each visit.

Clinical Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records.

  • Follow OSHA, infection control, sterilization, and safety protocols.

  • Ensure treatment rooms and instruments meet regulatory and practice standards.

  • Maintain proper inventory and organization of surgical supplies as needed.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with surgeons, clinical staff, and administrative teams to maintain efficient patient flow.

  • Support daily operations while providing exceptional customer service.

  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative clinical environment.

Qualifications

Required

  • Current New Jersey X-Ray Certification.

  • Dental assisting experience in a clinical setting.

  • Experience assisting with IV sedation procedures.

  • Experience supporting dental implant procedures.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical environment.

  • Professional, dependable, and patient-focused approach to care.

Preferred

  • Previous oral surgery assisting experience.

  • Experience working in an oral and maxillofacial surgery practice.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing throughout the workday.

  • Ability to lift and move dental equipment and supplies as needed.

  • Manual dexterity required to assist during surgical procedures.

  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods.
