Description
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Oral Surgery Dental Assistant to join our team in Portland, OR. This role is ideal for an experienced dental assistant who thrives in a surgical setting and is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care.
The Oral Surgery Assistant plays a critical role in supporting the doctor during surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort, and maintaining an efficient clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the oral surgeon during surgical procedures including extractions, implants, bone grafting, and other oral surgery treatments
- Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and treatment rooms in accordance with OSHA and infection control protocols
- Monitor patients during procedures, including vital signs when applicable
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative instructions to patients
- Take and process dental radiographs, including panoramic and CBCT scans (if applicable)
- Ensure all surgical rooms are properly set up and stocked for procedures
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and charting
- Support patient flow to ensure an efficient and organized schedule
- Assist with IV sedation setup and monitoring (if certified and applicable)
- Maintain a calm, reassuring environment for patients before, during, and after procedures
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Minimum 1–2 years of dental assisting experience (oral surgery experience preferred)
- DAANCE certification and/or EFODA certification required
- Radiology certification (required)
- Current CPR/BLS certification (required)
- Strong understanding of surgical procedures, instruments, and sterile techniques
- Ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced surgical environment
- Excellent communication and patient care skills
- Detail-oriented, organized, and dependable
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
