    Role Description The Orchestra Teacher is a contract, on-site role based in Washington, DC, responsible for providing high-quality music education to elementary students. Day-to-day duties include planning and delivering engaging orchestra lessons, teaching students fundamentals of orchestral instruments, and building their skills in ensemble performance. The teacher will organize and direct rehearsals, prepare students for performances, and collaborate with school staff to integrate music into the broader educational program. Additional responsibilities include assessing student progress, maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment, and communicating regularly with families and colleagues to support student growth.

    Qualifications

    • Demonstrated proficiency in orchestral music and general music theory and practice.
    • \n
    • Experience in music education, including designing age-appropriate curricula and instructional activities.
    • \n
    • Skill in teaching and performing violin and cello to beginning and intermediate students.
    • \n
    • Ability to create an inclusive, encouraging learning environment for diverse learners.
    • \n
    • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field preferred.
    • \n
    • Prior teaching experience in K–8 or youth orchestral programs strongly beneficial.
    • \n
    • Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills.
    • \n
    • Willingness to support LEARN’s college-prep mission and work closely with families and staff.
