Description

Make a meaningful impact helping students build independence and confidence by sharing your expertise as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist. This contract opportunity offers the chance to support learners with visual impairments for the 2026/2027 school year. You'll collaborate with a supportive team and play a crucial role in students' educational journeys near vibrant communities in California.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) required
  • Proven ability to assess, plan, and implement individualized O&M programs in school settings
  • Knowledge of current best practices and adaptive technology in orientation and mobility instruction
  • Strong communication skills for working with students, families, and educational staff
  • Flexibility and adaptability for working with a varied caseload
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive orientation and mobility evaluations and develop skill-building strategies
  • Deliver direct and consultative O&M instruction to students, fostering greater independence
  • Design and monitor individualized goals and progress based on student needs
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful learning environments
  • Offer in-service training and resources to staff and families as needed
  • Complete all required documentation, progress reports, and participate in IEP meetings
