Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) required
- Proven ability to assess, plan, and implement individualized O&M programs in school settings
- Knowledge of current best practices and adaptive technology in orientation and mobility instruction
- Strong communication skills for working with students, families, and educational staff
- Flexibility and adaptability for working with a varied caseload
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive orientation and mobility evaluations and develop skill-building strategies
- Deliver direct and consultative O&M instruction to students, fostering greater independence
- Design and monitor individualized goals and progress based on student needs
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful learning environments
- Offer in-service training and resources to staff and families as needed
- Complete all required documentation, progress reports, and participate in IEP meetings
