Atrium Health Floyd Orthopaedic Trauma is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join a growing orthopedic trauma practice within the Musculoskeletal Institute. This full-time position provides comprehensive care for orthopedic trauma patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings, working alongside a dedicated orthopedic trauma surgeon in a collaborative, team-based environment. The APP will play a key role in patient evaluation, fracture management, hospital rounding, consults, and clinic-based care.

• Partner directly with one orthopedic trauma surgeon during each rotation. 
• Provide care in a Level II Trauma environment.

Essential Job Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including obtaining histories, performing physical examinations, and developing treatment plans for orthopedic trauma patients.
• Evaluate and manage acute musculoskeletal injuries, fractures, dislocations, and post-operative orthopedic conditions.
• Perform hospital rounds and manage inpatient orthopedic trauma patients.
• Evaluate and manage new orthopedic trauma consults.
• Provide outpatient clinic care for scheduled follow-up and new patient visits.
• Interpret diagnostic imaging, laboratory studies, and clinical findings to guide patient management.
• Perform orthopedic procedures including:
  • Fracture reductions
  • Joint dislocation reductions
  • Splint application and management
  • Casting and cast management
  • Joint injections 
• Collaborate with surgeons, nursing staff, therapists, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate high-quality patient care.
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, surgical recovery, and injury prevention.
• Document patient encounters accurately and efficiently in the electronic medical record.
• Participate in orthopedic call coverage as assigned. 

Clinical Volumes

• Outpatient clinic volume: approximately 20-30 patients per day. 
• Inpatient census: approximately 10 patients daily. 

Qualifications

Required Education

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.

Required Certifications & Licensure

• Current or eligibility for Georgia licensure as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
• NCCPA certification for Physician Assistants or board certification for Nurse Practitioners.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required or obtained within organizational guidelines.

Required Experience

• Minimum of 4 years of relevant orthopedic, orthopedic trauma, emergency medicine, surgical, or musculoskeletal experience.

Preferred Skills

• Orthopedic trauma experience.
• Fracture management and reduction experience.
• Casting and splinting proficiency.
• Joint injection experience.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong procedural and clinical decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.

Call Coverage

• One to two primary orthopedic call shifts per week, shared among the provider team.
