Orthopedic Advanced Practice Provider (NP / PA)

Role Summary

UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health is seeking a dedicated, full-time Orthopedic Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our high-performing orthopedic care team. Working in close collaboration with board-certified orthopedic surgeons and an elite clinical support staff, you will provide comprehensive musculoskeletal care across outpatient clinic settings and, if applicable, surgical environments. This position balances specialized hands-on clinical procedures—such as joint injections, casting, and fracture management—with dedicated pre- and post-operative navigation. Whether you are an experienced orthopedic specialist or a motivated recent graduate with dedicated orthopedic clinical rotations, this role offers an exceptional infrastructure for professional growth and clinical excellence.

Duties & Responsibilities

Comprehensive Musculoskeletal Patient Care

  • Clinical Evaluations: Perform comprehensive patient evaluations, physical exams, and detailed medical histories for patients presenting with acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions.

  • Diagnostics & Treatment: Formulate accurate diagnoses, order and interpret complex musculoskeletal imaging (X-rays, MRIs, CT scans) and laboratory tests, and design evidence-based treatment plans.

  • Hands-on Procedures: Expertly perform localized clinical procedures within your scope of practice, including therapeutic joint injections, aspirations, splinting, reductions, and casting.

  • Surgical Assistance: Provide critical first-assist surgical support inside the Operating Room as needed and directed by attending orthopedic surgeons.

Care Coordination & Patient Advocacy

  • Surgical Navigation: Manage the complete perioperative continuum, providing detailed pre-operative clearances, immediate post-operative tracking, and structured wound care assessments.

  • Patient Education: Educate patients and their family caregivers on surgical expectations, injury recovery timelines, at-home therapeutic exercises, and preventative health strategies.

  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain precise, meticulous, and timely clinical documentation within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system in strict accordance with hospital policy and healthcare regulations.

  • Other duties as asiigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) program.

  • Licensure: An active, unrestricted New York State (NYS) professional license (or immediate eligibility to obtain).

  • Credentials: Current National Certification (NCCPA for PAs or relevant national board certification for NPs).

  • Life Support & Prescribing: Active, valid DEA registration, along with current BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certifications.

  • Work Authorization: Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship; visa candidates cannot be considered at this time.

Desired Qualifications

  • Specialized Experience: Prior professional experience in orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, urgent care, or a highly related musculoskeletal clinical setting is preferred.

  • Clinical Competencies: Confident familiarity with fracture care management, reduction techniques, and advanced structural imaging interpretation.

  • Adaptability: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to thrive and pivot within a fast-paced clinical environment.

Location and Work Type

  • Work Type: Full-Time, Permanent Employed Position.

  • Work Setting: 100% On-site clinical office and hospital surgical environment.

  • Travel Requirements: Never; position is anchored locally with no required professional travel.

  • Schedule: Consistent daytime hours.
