Major Responsibilities:
• Facilitates the development of critical thinking skills in the nursing personnel. • Acts as a clinical resource to OR staff and other hospital departments. • Develops staff by coaching, mentoring, and role modeling. • Participates in orientation of new staff members and provides feedback to the Professional Nurse Educator. • Assumes responsibility for direct patient care. • Evaluates OR turnover times and assists with meeting designated turnover time targets. • Provides feedback for team member performance reviews to managers. • Coordinates the flow of surgical cases within the operating room.
Service Leader:
• Facilitates collaboration among the multidisciplinary team to achieve excellent patient outcomes. • Collaborates with the OR Manager, Materials Manager, and SPD Manager in regards to physician needs, equipment usage, and supply requests in accordance with Advocates preferred vendor list and contracts. • Coordinates schedule with appropriate vendors, representatives, proctoring physicians, and observers to ensure they adhere to OR/Advocate policies and procedures. • Coordinates and evaluates new supplies/equipment. Submit new product requests and purchasing requests when needed. • Reviews inventory on specialized supply carts, removes outdated supplies, and coordinates with supply liaison and managers attention. • Assumes responsibility for administrative call. • Communicates with physicians on approved products. Serves as a resource to patients, families, and other healthcare providers.
Quality Improvement:
• Perform duties that strive for excellence in patient outcomes. • Maintain preference cards so that they are updated on a regular basis. • Participate in performance improvement projects. • Provide feedback and suggestions in improvement ideas. • Monitors compliance with all legal, safety, and health regulations and guidelines to ensure quality patient care. • Reports safety events and near misses.
Fiscal Responsibility:
• Assists in the planning and monitoring of departmental budget. • Maintains a working knowledge of the department expense budget. • Follows Advocates contracts and preferred vendor lists. • Provides justification and quotations for purchase requests to the manager.

Licensure:
• Nurse, Registered (RN)
Education/Experience Required:
• Graduate from approved school of nursing. • 2 years clinical experience in area specialty (OR). • 1 year management experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
• Clinically appropriate skills with ability to assume charge role of specialty. • Ability to communicate effectively and work cohesively with a diverse work group. • Fine motor skills. • Current licensure in State of Illinois. • CPR. • Active member of professional organization.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
• Incumbent to work full time status during peak operating time. • Ability to coordinate staffing and patient load capacity. • Demonstrates excellent-communication/interpersonal skills. • Ability to function efficiently in a stressful and changing environment. • Resiliency and flexibility to deal with an ever-changing healthcare environment. • Ability to communicate with mask on and not facing others. • Exposure to body fluids, hazardous material, waste, chemicals, anesthetic gases, life-threatening diseases, and radiation. • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. • For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. • Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
