Aquila Corporation is looking for an experienced, safety-focused OSP Aerial Lineman to support the installation, maintenance, repair, and construction of aerial fiber optic telecommunications infrastructure.
This is a hands-on field position responsible for installing and maintaining fiber optic cable, poles, strand, hardware, guy wires, anchors, and other Outside Plant (OSP) components. You'll work from utility poles, ladders, bucket trucks, and approved aerial equipment while supporting safe and efficient project completion.

What You'll Do
- Install, maintain, and repair aerial fiber optic cable, strand, poles, guy wires, anchors, and associated telecommunications hardware according to project and customer specifications.
- Install equipment and properly dress utility poles using approved hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
- Safely operate Company vehicles, aerial lift equipment, bucket trucks, and other authorized equipment after required training and authorization.
- Use chain hoists and other approved equipment to properly tension cables, strand, and guy wires.
- Perform physically demanding construction activities including lifting, carrying, climbing, pulling, pushing, and handling telecommunications materials and equipment.
- Assist with aerial and underground fiber construction activities as needed, including work involving handholes, manholes, conduits, and other infrastructure.
- Complete daily production forms, project activity reports, photographs, material documentation, and other required records accurately and timely.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels of fiber materials, hardware, tools, and supplies on assigned vehicles.
- Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance of assigned Company vehicles and equipment, including fluid checks, cleanliness, organization, and reporting maintenance or safety concerns.
- Set up and assist with traffic control in accordance with applicable local, state, and DOT requirements.
- Follow Company safety policies and applicable OSHA, NESC, DOT, fall-protection, PPE, and traffic-control requirements.
- Identify and immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, utility conflicts, property damage, injuries, accidents, or other jobsite concerns.
- Coordinate effectively with supervisors, construction crews, fiber technicians, customers, and other personnel to complete projects safely and efficiently.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in telecommunications, fiber optics, electronics, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Fiber Technician, Fiber Splicer, or in a similar fiber optic telecommunications role preferred.
- Experience operating fiber optic testing and splicing equipment, including OTDRs, fusion splicers, optical testing equipment, computers, and other specialized fiber tools.
- Knowledge of fiber optic cable, splice enclosures, network components, testing procedures, troubleshooting, and fiber optic construction practices.
- Valid driver's license required and ability to meet Company and insurance requirements for operating Company vehicles.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a field team while maintaining strong attention to quality, accuracy, and safety.
- Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with coworkers, homeowners, customers, contractors, and other field personnel.
- Ability to safely lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds multiple times throughout the workday.
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, kneel, reach, climb, and perform detailed or repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors year-round in varying weather and field conditions, including heat, cold, rain, mud, uneven terrain, rights-of-way, easements, and active construction environments.
Additional Experience We Value
- Aerial Fiber / OSP Construction Experience
- Fiber Optic Testing and Splicing Experience
- CFOT, CPCT, CFOS, OSHA, CPR, or other applicable industry certifications
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - strongly preferred
