The Telecom Outside Plant (OSP) Field Engineer is responsible for providing detailed OSP cable design field notes and pole data for a proposed underground route. Field documentation for designated buried/underground fiber cable and pole mount cabinets, in accordance with company policies, procedures and quality standards, while meeting customer delivery requirements. Candidates will visit job sites in Snohomish County to Whatcom County.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide detailed OSP field notes for buried and underground proposed routes.
- Manage all projects to meet or exceed minimum specifications of Construction Policies, NESC, NEC, OSHA, State, County and all other applicable agencies.
- Maintain a high level of productivity, assuring timeframes are met for projects occurring simultaneously and track and generate field notes, fielding checklists and digital photos. Report status on projects daily.
- Prepare, manage and maintain project documentation, maps and CAD drawings. Create field notes and drawings with detailed field information.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Experience in fielding copper and fiber optic network additions in detail.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical specifications, utilities maps, professional documentation and blueprints.
- Experience using the following systems: Infinium, Varasset, M6, Control Desk (for fiber key sheets), FROGS (Ziply Fiber, GIS platform - OSP cable plant records and AutoCAD for developing work order specifications), DPI (Cable facility inventory and customer terminal records), and FTTP fiber records is strongly desired.
- Ability to write detailed reports, correspondence and documentation.
- Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, customers and other employees of the organization on project status and changes.
- Site work experience that includes detailed review of an area to capture all existing utilities, all adjacent structures, detailed measurements and the path to extend facilities a plus.
- Ability to read and understand architectural / engineering drawings.
- Ability to manage, organize and layout drawing requirements.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced high-volume work environment.
- Work independently under minimal supervision.
- Ability to use smart phone mandatory for email, Drop Box, time entry and in activity management system.
- Ability to use tools such as GE MapSight, GPS units and laser range finder a plus.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check and drug screening as a condition of employment following a conditional job offer
- Must possess a valid driver''s license and demonstrate a safe driving record through pre-employment motor vehicle record (MVR) review and throughout the duration of employment.
- Requires use of personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement (IRS standard mileage rate).
Physical Requirements:
- Requires daily walking up to 4 miles per day.
- Works outside extensively and can be exposed to all types of weather, such as heat, cold, sun, precipitation, and other weather conditions.
- May carry equipment such as GPS units, GPS antennas, measuring sticks, measuring wheels and other handheld devices weighing 5-20 pounds May be required to read engineering designs which use color coding to denote telecom routes.
