The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator is responsible for the Programs compliance with all ACOTE fieldwork Standards. In addition, the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator is responsible for teaching assigned courses in his/her areas of expertise, and advising students. This position reports to the Program Director.
Essential Duties:
- Document the criteria and process for selecting fieldwork sites. Fieldwork sites should provide clinical experiences that are consistent with Program goals
- Ensure that the fieldwork program reflects the sequence, depth, focus and scope of content in the curriculum design
- Collaborate with faculty to design fieldwork experiences that strengthen ties between didactic, distance, and fieldwork education
- Collaborate with fieldwork educators to establish fieldwork objectives, identify site requirements, and communicate with students about their progress and performance during fieldwork
- Develop a policy and procedure for complying with fieldwork site health requirements
- Develop, in collaboration with Program Director, a system to ensure that the ratio of fieldwork educators to student(s) enables proper supervision and the ability to provide frequent assessment of student progress in achieving fieldwork objectives
- Secure and sustain sufficient number of fieldwork agreements (scope and number) to allow completion of graduation requirements according to Program policy
- Maintain current, signed fieldwork agreements or memoranda of understanding
- Document the review and renewal of each fieldwork agreement or memorandum of understanding for all active fieldwork sites at least every 5 years
- Develop a system for assigning students to fieldwork placements and advising students of the overall fieldwork (Level I and Level II) process and program
- Develop and pursue individual Professional Development plan as approved by Program Director
- Travel as needed to consortium sites and field work sites.
- To be familiar with and uphold the MHPC OTA Program mission which is as follows:
- The mission of the Missouri Health Professions Consortium (MHPC) Occupational Therapy Assistant Program is to educate and prepare occupational therapy assistants to provide occupational therapy interventions to the citizens of Missouri and neighboring states, especially those in rural and underserved areas. We educate and prepare generalists, to have the knowledge, skills and professional behaviors that are necessary to work in both traditional and emerging areas of practice.
Responsibilities Specific to Level I Fieldwork
With Program faculty:
- Develop Level I fieldwork experiences that are integral to and consistent with the curriculum design.
- Ensure that qualified personnel supervise Level I fieldwork.
- Document all Level I Fieldwork experiences that are provided to students.
- Determine method(s) for evaluating students Level I fieldwork performance.
- Ensure that Level I Fieldwork is not substituted for any part of Level II Fieldwork.
Responsibilities Specific to Level II Fieldwork
- Ensure that Level II fieldwork experiences are consistent with professional role development of the occupational therapy assistant.
- Develop a range of Level II Fieldwork placements in settings that reflect traditional and/or emerging settings, and that all settings reflect understanding and integration of psychosocial factors in occupational therapy/occupational therapy assistant intervention.
- Ensure that the Program requires a minimum of 16 weeks of full time level II Fieldwork.
- Ensure that students are supervised by a currently licensed, or credentialed, occupational therapist, or occupational therapy assistant, who has a minimum of 1 year of practice experience subsequent to initial certification, and who are adequately prepared to serve as fieldwork educators supervise students.
- Create and implement a mechanism for evaluating the effectiveness of supervision, and provide resources for enhancing supervision.
- Ensure that supervision provides protection of consumers and opportunities for appropriate role modeling of occupational therapy practice.
- If student is placed in a setting where no occupational therapy/occupational therapy assistant serves exist, develop and document a plan for supervision that meets ACOTE Standards.
- Determine and document mechanism for formal evaluation of student performance on Level II Fieldwork.
- If student is placed in a setting outside of the United States, document a plan for fieldwork that meets ACOTE Standards
This position is expected to comply with the State Fair Community College policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
- Initially certified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant
- Licensed in the state of Missouri or eligible for licensure
- Minimum of 2 years work experience as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant
- If occupational therapist, understanding of and experience working with occupational therapy assistants
- Documented expertise with computer technology and electronic teaching/learning and communication activities, knowledge of distance education methods
- Documented expertise in area(s) of teaching
Education: Baccalaureate degree, masters degree preferred
