    Career & Self Development: The position provides opportunities for an OTD graduate student to heighten their knowledge and skill set by assuming duties that will help them progress professionally. The recipient of this position will seek and embrace opportunities to assist faculty in research, finding grants and grant writing, and helping to develop and facilitate educational opportunities for both faculty and students. Building and maintaining relationships through daily communications and hands-on support along with seeking and developing learning opportunities are beneficial for professional and personal development.

    Communication: This position's requirements include clearly, effectively, and professionally communicating with both students and faculty on the Ruskin campus, both in person and through the various communication media used in the position.

    Critical Thinking: The position will require the recipient to make decisions and solve problems associated with finding and evaluating relevant research, and using sound, inclusive reasoning and judgement to identify current best evidence associated with healthcare. Gathering and analyzing information from a diverse set of sources and individuals will be necessary. Accurately summarizing and interpreting data with an awareness of personal biases that may impact outcomes will be necessary.

    Leadership: The position will require an individual who is able to seek out and leverage diverse resources and feedback from others to inform direction for research ideas and to identify best evidence sources that can be used to inform self and others.

    Professionalism: The position will maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with faculty, other students and potentially small groups from the community. It is essential to demonstrate dependability and the ability to prioritize and complete tasks, as well as the ability to attend to details and to show a high level of dedication toward doing a good job.

    Equity and Inclusion: The position will require keeping an open mind to diverse ideas and new ways of thinking; to identify resources and eliminate barriers resulting from individual and systemic racism, inequities and biases.

    Technology: This position requires the use of technology, especially Excel, to improve efficiency and productivity and to complete specific tasks, such as manipulating information, constructing ideas and analyzing research results.

    We are looking for a detail-oriented student who has an interest in the research process. This position has been generously provided by the Graduate Council to assist Dr. Blair Carsone with research activities, including literature reviews, data collection, data management/analysis, Institutional review Board support, and manuscript and presentation assistance. The research assistant may also be involved in other faculty research or special projects within the OTD department as needed and as time allows. This position requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as a commitment to professional and ethical behavior.

    Required Qualifications

    The preferred candidate will meet the following minimum qualifications:

    • Must be currently enrolled second-year student for 26-27 academic year in the OTD program in Ruskin, FL.
    • Cumulative GPA through Fall 2025 of 3.4 or higher; a grade at the time of interview in DOCCT 835 of 85% or higher
    • Excellent communication skills with peers and faculty
    • Organized
    • Attention to detail

    Preferred Qualifications

    Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel

    Highly organized

    Experience in research- skill with literature searches and data management

    Physical Demands

    Should be able to bend, lift, push and pull to set up lab equipment

    May be asked to lift up to 50lbs.

    May be asked to walk campus multiple times a day
