The School of Health & Human Sciences advances healthcare, exercise and applied fitness, tourism, events, and sport management through education, research, and community engagement. Camp Brosius is Indiana Universitys historic family camp located on the shores of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. For generations, Camp Brosius has provided exceptional summer experiences that foster community, recreation, and lifelong memories for families and campers of all ages.

Job Summary

The School of Health & Human Sciences is seeking a collaborative leader to serve as Camp Brosius Director. This position provides strategic leadership and operational oversight to ensure the continued success, safety, and quality of 1 of Indiana Universitys most cherished traditions.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Directs the planning, development, and implementation of family camp programming for children, adults, and families while preserving Camp Brosius traditions and enhancing the guest experience.
  • Oversees the maintenance, safety, and stewardship of Camp Brosius facilities, grounds, and assets, including capital improvements, renovations, and repair projects
  • Develops and maintains camp policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Indiana University policies and applicable health and safety standards
  • Manages vendor relationships, service contracts, and operational partnerships to support camp operations
  • Collaborates with school leadership and development staff on strategic planning, alumni engagement, and donor relations to support the long-term success of Camp Brosius
  • Serves as the primary on-site administrator during the summer operating season and is available to respond to operational, staffing, and guest needs as required

General Responsibilities

  • Provides day-to-day operational management of outdoor education staff
  • Establishes short-term operational objectives
  • Identifies operational issues and/or areas of improvement and implements solutions to improve processes and/or operational efficiency
  • Analyzes, monitors, and evaluates performance of assigned staff; establishes work priorities, conducts performance reviews, and provides corrective action as needed
  • Ensures adequate staffing and effective scheduling; participates and informs employment decisions for assigned staff
  • Provides direct supervision and oversight of assigned staff and activities; impacts, and is held accountable for, the performance of team and/or assigned staff
  • Ensures and provides training to assigned staff to improve outdoor education operations; researches and identifies development opportunities for assigned staff
  • Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry outdoor education standards, best practices, and emerging technology; keeps next-level leader(s) informed of trends as well as significant problems

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary

$34,000.00 - 38,000.00 annually

Work Hours

This is a 10-month, exempt position. Work hours vary based on operational needs and seasonal program demands. During the summer camp season, extended hours, including evenings and weekends, are required to support residential camp operations and provide on-site leadership.

Outside of the summer camp season, work hours generally follow standard business hours, with flexibility to support planning, staff recruitment, training, program development, budgeting, facility and vendor coordination, and other operational needs in preparation for the upcoming camp season.
