Pay Grade Salary Hourly Pay Rate $ 15.25 FLSA Job Summary/Basic Function

The Student Manager of the Adventure Program supports the planning, organization, and execution of Adventure Program trips, events, and clinics alongside the Outdoor Program Coordinator. This position is focused on the mentoring of Trip Leaders, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and promoting an inclusive space for all participants and staff. This position is ideal for a student with prior outdoor leadership experience who is looking to further develop their skills in program management, outdoor disciplines, and inclusive leadership. This person will have the opportunity to join a wide range of trips, trainings, certification courses, and clinics to develop their technical skills. This person will also develop their management skills with administrative tasks including data management, pre-trip communications, and more. This position reports to Outdoor Program Coordinator and will accept internal applicants only.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must show a strong commitment to the Adventure Program.

Competency and documented experience of at least two of the following activity areas: rock climbing (single pitch), backcountry skiing, whitewater kayaking, whitewater rafting, canyoneering, backpacking, mountain biking.

Able to commit to about 10-20 hours a week in this position. Hours will vary depending on the season and program needs.

Must be willing to obtain American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and standard First Aid Certifications within 30 days of hire (classes are taught in-house).

Ability to obtain Wilderness First Responder (or equivalent) certificate within 1 year of hire.

Ability to perform physical tasks in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions.

Perform other duties and specific course responsibilities as assigned.

Strong communication and organizational skills.

Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly.

Must possess a valid drivers license by start of program and have a good driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced medical training such as Wilderness First Responder, Outdoor Emergency Care, or EMT.
  • Previous experience as a Trip Leader, Guide, Instructor or Outdoor Program staff.
  • Relevant certifications including but not limited to: Single Pitch Instructor, Swiftwater Rescue Technician, AIARE 1, 2, and/or Rescue, Leave No Trace Trainer or Master Educator.
