Description
Pay begins at $16.09/hr for Outdoor Recreation Assistant and is dependent upon applicable experience.
This is a SEASONAL position running until October 25th and is not eligible for benefits.
Description:
This classification is responsible for assisting with the Paddle Adventures Watercraft Rental program and communicating the fundamentals and safety of watercraft sports within the Parks and Recreation department. Duties and responsibilities include instruction, facilitation, and evaluation of paddling/boating equipment and public programs. This person is responsible for the safe transportation of equipment, safe utilization of gear/elements, and the safety and well-being of participants. Under general supervision, reports to Outdoor Recreation & Program Coordinator and SOAC Manager

Performance Aptitudes
Data Utilization: Requires the ability to work with large amounts of data to include knowledge of parks and facilities locations, contents, and users. May also require ability to perform subsequent actions in relation to computational procedures.
Human Interaction: Requires the ability to exercise excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to provide assistance and direction to others regarding SOAC policies and procedures. Must be able to work independently and with a group.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Material Utilization: Requires the ability to use an assortment of office equipment such as a computer with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; fax machine, copier/scanner; label maker, phone with multiple lines, card scanner, calculator, postage machine, and alarm/lights system.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to express ideas and present information clearly, concisely, and effectively both orally and in writing. Requires the ability to use and interpret a variety of descriptive information.
Mathematical Aptitude: Must have basic mathematical aptitude. Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and interpret graphs, along with the ability to solve problems involving decimals, percentages, and fractions.
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to understand and execute instructions dictated in written or oral form. Requires the ability to work on multiple projects/tasks simultaneously.
Situational Reasoning: Detail oriented; requires the ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
ADA Compliance
Physical Ability: Some tasks may require the ability to lift, pull, or push up to 75 lbs, although greater weights may be encountered. Must be able to grasp, crouch, stand, bend, swim, stoop, crawl, stretch, climb, and walk. Must have sufficient vision and hearing to read to or interact with people. Must have the dexterity and fitness sufficient to safely and proficiently operate, utilize, and maintain equipment and tools related to tasks. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Must be able to assume and effectively organize a large number of duties, often concurrently.
Environmental Factors: Essential functions are performed in an office environment as well as field environment which may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dust, odors, temperature and noise extremes. Periods of heavy workloads are common. Conditions are generally agreeable (office environment). Will at times be exposed to elements of nature during field work including extreme heat or cold, rain, snow, and other unfavorable or inclement weather conditions
