Outdoor Seasonal Caretaker

The Westfield Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Seasonal Outdoor Maintenance Worker to join our Facilities team. This position is responsible for performing a variety of groundskeeping, landscaping, and general outdoor maintenance tasks to ensure that all school campuses are safe, attractive, and well-maintained for students, staff, and the community.

Key Responsibilities:

Landscaping & Groundskeeping: Operate riding and push mowers, weed eaters, edgers, and blowers to maintain lawns, athletic fields, and common areas.

Plant Maintenance: Assist with planting, watering, weeding, mulching, and pruning trees, shrubs, and flower beds.

General Maintenance: Perform basic outdoor maintenance tasks including painting fences or curbs, repairing playground equipment, and maintaining walkways.

Waste Management: Empty outdoor trash and recycling receptacles and ensure grounds are free of litter and debris.

Equipment Care: Perform basic preventative maintenance and cleaning on hand tools and gas-powered landscaping equipment.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Experience: Previous experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or general maintenance is highly preferred but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate.

Physical Ability: Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor, including lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs, bending, stooping, and standing or walking for extended periods.

Environment: Ability to work outdoors for the duration of the shift in varying weather conditions, including summer heat and rain.

Background Check: Must successfully pass a criminal background check and child abuse clearance as required by state law for school district employees.

Skills: Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, work independently or as part of a team, and operate machinery safely.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed almost entirely outdoors.

Seasonable position for summer and fall.
