Job Title: Outpatient Surgery Coder
Location: Remote
Shift (EST): Monday–Friday or Sunday–Thursday; 1st or 2nd shift (flexible)
Pay: $24+ (DOE)
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Review, analyze, and assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for outpatient medical records
- Focus on outpatient surgery, wound care, and observation encounters
- Assign diagnosis and procedure codes using coding guidelines and CAC systems
- Apply appropriate modifiers and procedural categories
- Ensure documentation supports scheduled and performed procedures
- Maintain coding accuracy and productivity standards
- Review coding work queues and collaborate with revenue cycle teams to resolve account issues within required timeframes
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience with EPIC is required
- Coding experience required
- One or more certifications required: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCA, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-H
- AHIMA-accredited coding certificate preferred
- Experience in multi-facility or remote coding environments preferred
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS coding guidelines
- Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and surgical procedures
- Knowledge of payer regulations and reimbursement systems
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and coding systems
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
