Role Description

The Outreach Navigator provides field-based outreach, engagement, and screening services to individuals with substance use and co-occurring behavioral health needs who are at risk of involvement with the criminal justice system. Working closely with law enforcement, first responders, and community partners, this role builds trust with hard-to-reach individuals, connects them to recovery-oriented services, and supports diversion from arrest through timely intervention. The Outreach Navigator uses lived experience to foster rapport, applies harm reduction and motivational strategies, and ensures accurate documentation and coordination of care. This position requires flexibility to work in community settings, including evenings and on-call shifts, to meet individuals where they are and promote sustained engagement in recovery.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have lived experience with a substance use disorder, defined as a part recipient of substance use disorder treatment services, and/or other recovery programs, and/or past involvement with the criminal justice system.
  • Must be in recovery for a minimum of 12 months and able to provide appropriate support services to program participants without impairing one’s own ability to remain in recovery
  • Must obtain state certification as a Certified Peer Specialist and Agency Affiliated Counselor within six (6) months of hire
  • Ability to establish collaborative relationships with law enforcement and social service providers to effectively serve mutual clients
  • Applicants with experience providing street-based outreach and engagement highly desired
