Description

Klamath Community College's Global Languages and Learning Department promotes language acquisition, cross-cultural competence, and lifelong learning through accessible, community-centered education. We are seeking an Outreach Specialist who enjoys building relationships, engaging diverse communities, and helping students connect to meaningful learning opportunities.

This is a highly interactive, community-facing role where you will serve as a primary representative of GLL, building trust, increasing program visibility, and supporting students as they access language education and career-enhancing services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position develops and implements outreach initiatives to promote Global Languages and Learning programs and includes tasks such as community engagement, event coordination, public speaking, and administrative support.

  • Take initiative to set outreach goals and develop strategies to connect with multilingual and multicultural populations.
  • Initiate outreach campaigns via phone, email, and social media.
  • Prepare materials and organize recruitment and informational events.
  • Serve as the "Face of KCC Global Languages and Learning" during public engagements.
  • Handle walk-in and digital inquiries from prospective students.
  • Schedule and administer intake interviews and orientations for new students.
  • Maintain accurate records and tracking systems for prospective and enrolled students.
  • Create and periodically evaluate strategic outreach and recruitment plans.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with local agencies, community groups, and educational institutions to promote departmental programs.
  • Coordinate remote and community-based outreach events, including bringing in guest speakers and partner organizations to share resources with students.
  • Identify and participate in opportunities to distribute outreach materials, attend cultural events, and collaborate with other organizations.
  • Input student data into college systems and other digital tracking platforms.
  • Respond to inquiries via phone, email, and in-person in a professional, helpful, and culturally sensitive manner.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Represent KCC in a culturally responsive and bilingual capacity, fostering trust and engagement with students, families, and partners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to drive at night.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends for community and campus events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish or another language relevant to program populations).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English (and Spanish if bilingual).
  • Energetic, self-motivated, and personable.
  • Culturally competent and able to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work in a team setting.
  • Computer literacy required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher, preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds for event setup, including outreach materials and equipment. Travel to off-campus outreach locations is required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in outreach, marketing, education, or communications preferred.

  • This position is contingent upon the availability of funding from external grants. In the event that grant funding is reduced, eliminated, or not renewed, the position may be subject to modification or termination.
