DLA Services is looking for an experienced Commercial Door & Dock Service Technician to join our growing team.

We are a family-owned commercial and industrial service company based in Johnston, RI, servicing customers throughout Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire and the surrounding New England area.

We are looking for someone who can troubleshoot, repair and install commercial door and loading dock equipment and who takes pride in figuring out problems and getting the job done right.

This is not a residential garage-door position. Our technicians work in warehouses, distribution centers, retail facilities, manufacturing plants and other commercial and industrial facilities.

What You’ll Work On

Experience with some or all of the following is preferred:

• Commercial sectional overhead doors
• Rolling steel doors and rolling grilles
• Commercial door operators
• High-speed and fabric doors
• Hydraulic and mechanical dock equipment
• Edge-of-dock levelers
• Vehicle restraints and dock locks
• Dock seals and shelters
• Hollow metal/man doors and hardware
• Electrical and low-voltage controls
• Photo eyes, proximity sensors and safety devices
• Motors, switches, relays and control circuits
• Welding and fabrication
• Preventative maintenance and equipment inspections

What We’re Looking For

We are especially interested in technicians who already have experience in the commercial overhead door, loading dock, industrial maintenance, material handling or field service fields.

The right person should be able to:

• Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems
• Work independently in the field
• Understand how equipment operates instead of simply changing parts
• Communicate clearly with customers and the DLA office
• Document work performed and identify additional repairs when needed
• Work safely around commercial and industrial equipment
• Maintain an organized company vehicle and tools
• Show up reliably and on time
• Work well with other technicians when larger jobs require a crew
• Help less-experienced technicians when appropriate

Experience We’re Interested In

Strong candidates may come from backgrounds such as:

• Commercial overhead door service
• Loading dock equipment service
• Industrial maintenance
• Commercial electrical service
• Automatic door service
• Material-handling equipment
• Conveyor service
• Forklift or industrial equipment repair
• Mechanical field service

Direct commercial door and dock experience is strongly preferred, but we are willing to talk with experienced mechanical/electrical service technicians who have the troubleshooting ability and desire to learn the industry.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
• Ability to safely operate a company service vehicle
• Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
• Ability to use hand tools and power tools
• Ability to work from ladders and aerial lifts
• Ability to safely lift and handle equipment and materials associated with commercial service work
• Comfortable working in warehouse and industrial environments
• Reliable attendance and communication
• Willingness to travel throughout the New England service area as needed

OSHA, forklift, aerial lift, electrical, welding, door-industry or manufacturer certifications are a plus.

Compensation:

Competitive hourly pay based on experience and ability.

We are willing to pay appropriately for someone who brings real commercial door, dock or industrial service experience to the company.
