Overnight Virtual Psychiatrist – Inpatient Psychiatric Admissions

Athra is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Psychiatrist to provide dedicated overnight virtual psychiatric admission coverage for inpatient behavioral health hospitals. This position is fully remote and designed for psychiatrists interested in a defined overnight schedule without a traditional onsite inpatient rounding assignment.

The psychiatrist will provide psychiatric expertise during overnight admissions, including psychiatric evaluation, medication review and continuity, clinical decision-making, and direct documentation within the hospital's EMR.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated virtual psychiatric admission coverage throughout assigned overnight hours.
• Complete psychiatric admission evaluations for patients presenting for inpatient behavioral health treatment.
• Assess psychiatric symptoms, diagnoses, risk factors, medical and psychiatric history, and appropriateness for inpatient treatment.
• Review home and current psychiatric medications as part of the admission process.
• Continue clinically appropriate psychiatric medications and initiate or modify treatment when indicated based on clinical judgment.
• Complete admission documentation, orders, and required clinical records directly within the facility's EMR.
• Remain available and responsive to admissions throughout the assigned overnight shift.
• Collaborate virtually with hospital nursing, intake, admissions, and other clinical personnel.
• Address psychiatric questions related to the admission when necessary.
• Provide appropriate clinical handoff to the daytime team for issues requiring continued follow-up.
• Maintain compliance with facility policies, medical staff bylaws, regulatory requirements, and Athra clinical standards.

Qualifications

• MD or DO with completion of an accredited psychiatry residency.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
• Active, unrestricted medical license in Texas. Additional state licenses may be beneficial as the program expands.
• Active DEA registration and appropriate prescribing authority.
• Inpatient psychiatric, psychiatric emergency, or behavioral health admissions experience strongly preferred.
• Ability to independently manage psychiatric admission decisions during overnight hours.
• Comfortable managing psychiatric medications and higher-acuity behavioral health presentations through telepsychiatry.
• Strong EMR documentation and communication skills.
• Reliable high-speed internet and a private, HIPAA-compliant workspace.

Position Highlights

This is a 100% remote overnight psychiatry position with a 7 on, 7 off schedule focused specifically on inpatient psychiatric admissions. The psychiatrist will have the ability to evaluate patients, provide medication continuity, and make psychiatric treatment decisions rather than functioning solely as an admission screener.

Athra provides centralized credentialing, scheduling, operational support, and coordination with participating hospitals, allowing the psychiatrist to remain focused on patient care and timely admission completion.
