Job Description
Youth Care Worker Reports to: Shift Supervisor Hours: full time non-exempt – Overnight 10:30pm-6:30am MISSION AND NEED: Holy Family Institute (HFI) is a 125-year-old Catholic organization with an impeccable history of serving children and families in the Pittsburgh Region. We are one of Pittsburgh’s largest social service organizations operating 15 programs in three counties. We are an independent organization guided by Catholic Social Teachings and serving people of all faiths and backgrounds. General Statement of Duties: The Youth Care Worker (YCW) provides daily direct supervision and monitoring of children in care. The YCW must maintain the children in their line of sight at all times. The YCW must also perform cleaning duties to maintain the cleanliness of the cottages, as well as food service duties during mealtimes. Candidates who are bilingual in English, Spanish, Dari and/or Pashto (read, write, and speak) strongly preferred. Final approval for hire will be done by the Project Officer of the Office of Refugee and Resettlement which is a sub-agency of the Department of Health and Human Services of the federal government. Holy Family Institute provides help, healing, hope and support to children and families in western Pennsylvania. From alternative learning environments and career training, to families in need of support and counseling – including help with addiction, alcoholism and other debilitating problems – Holy Family is here. The families we serve often have experienced significant trauma in their lives and need caring and support in order to heal. For this reason, Holy Family maintains a trauma-sensitive culture by utilizing The Sanctuary Model throughout our programs and services. Sanctuary gives a common language to our leadership, staff and clients so we can create an environment that is safe so that healing can occur.
In order to accomplish our mission to serve children and families and crisis, we work to generate funding for our programs and collaborate with community leaders and organizations to tap the best resources available to serve them. We provide care within the community to ensure that families have all the tools they need to thrive, with easier access to the resources they need to establish personal responsibility and stability.
