What does a P & R Facility Maintenance Technician II do?

The Parks and Recreation Facility Maintenance Technician II plays a crucial role within the City of Cortez's Parks and Recreation team, ensuring that facilities, particularly the Recreation Center, are safe, clean, and consistently well-maintained. This journey-level position requires expertise in diverse building trades and proficiency in managing pool chemical and mechanical systems. Responsibilities include performing general maintenance and repairs for various facility systems, such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, roofing, security, and audio-visual setups. In this role, you may also take on a senior or leadership position, guiding the facility maintenance team while ensuring the highest standards of operational excellence. What you need to be successful

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with 3-5 years of journeyman-level experience in one or more building trades. Physical strength is necessary to endure long periods of manual labor, including tasks performed at heights using lifts, ladders, or scaffolding.

• Ability to physically withstand strain of performing manual tasks for long periods.
• Ability to supervise and delegate work to part-time employees.
• Ability to plan and organize work.
• Ability to perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks in repair and maintenance of the recreation center.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employee and general public.
• Ability to work over thirty feet above ground from a movable person lift
• ladder or scaffolding.
• Ability to work unsupervised or independently for extended periods of time.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Must have general knowledge of computers.
• Must be a High school graduate or equivalent
• journeyman-level (3-5 years) experience in one or more building trades. Experience operating pool chemical and mechanical systems and the ability to become a Certified Pool Operator or similar.
• Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license.
