SUPERVISOR: Principal/Athletic Director/Assistant Superintendent

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

EMPLOYMENT

TERM: 2026-2027 School Year, ongoing; Hours to be determined by School Principal and/or Athletic Director; not to exceed 40 hours.

SALARY: $50,000.00

EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Building Principal or Athletic Director in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310, and UCBOE Policy 5010.

JOB SUMMARY: Provide Athletic Training Services to athletes during specific times teams are practicing and playing. Advise Athletes, parents, and coaches regarding growth and development needs of athletes in relation to specific sports. Advise athletes, parents and coaches on return to play based on standards set forth by the WVSSAC and established athletic training protocols. Instruct and advise athletes, parents and coaches on preventive techniques appropriate to specific sports.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

  • Advise athletes and appropriate school personnel regarding proper selection and use of protective and rehabilitative equipment.
  • Instruct and advise administrators, coaches, students and other relevant personnel regarding needs and proper procedures in emergency situations.
  • Advise athletes and parents if there is a need for definitive medical care.
  • Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, educational personnel and health care professionals.
  • Perform injury evaluation techniques and make initial impression of injury based on growth and development stage of athlete.
  • Evaluate and screen athlete for potential injury due to previous conditions.
  • Evaluate protective equipment and athletic environment.
  • Provide timely and appropriate evaluation of injury and/or illness sustained by students engaged in athletic activities, in the absence of more qualified personnel.
  • Provide emergency care appropriate to the growth and development of the athlete and the nature of the injury.
  • Provide emergency care in crisis situations.
  • Provide timely and appropriate treatment of injury and/or illness sustained by students engaged in athletic activities.
  • Provide rehabilitative procedures appropriate to the growth and development characteristics of the athlete and the nature of the injury.
  • Provide specific reconditioning programs based upon evaluation/screening outcomes.
  • Provide athletic injury rehabilitation services to athletes as prescribed by physician.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the athletic training program.
  • Develop written athletic training policy and procedure guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain an effective evaluation / assessment system, including record keeping.
  • Manage crisis situations in the athletic environment.
  • Assume responsibility for continuation of professional development.
  • Follow all established WVSSAC Athletic Training Guidelines

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Holds a Valid WVSSAC Athletic Trainer certification
  • Holds a Valid First Aid and CPR card
  • Holds a valid Athletic Trainer Certification
  • Meets all guidelines according to WV Code 30-20A

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach, stand, walk, lift, grasp, write, talk, hear, see, use technology such as computers and multi-media equipment, and use repetitive motions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may lift and/or move at least 10 â 70 pounds of materials. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff members.
