A day in the life

When the high-speed packaging lines hum to life, you’re the expert who keeps every conveyor, labeler, and robotic arm running at peak performance. You’ll move from diagnosing a stubborn sensor fault on a PLC-controlled conveyor to fine-tuning a VFD on a cartoner, then wrap the day by updating documentation and coaching a teammate through a new troubleshooting technique. Your focus: maximize uptime, safety, and reliability across automated equipment.

What you will tackle

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems for automated packaging equipment, including conveyors, labeling machines, and robotic arms.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults in PLC-based control systems, motor controls, sensors, relays, and drives (VFDs/servos).
  • Read and apply electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to plan and execute work.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to reduce unplanned downtime and ensure safe, reliable operation.
  • Work side-by-side with maintenance technicians and production teams to rapidly clear issues and sustain throughput.
  • Program and modify PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) to support equipment upgrades and process changes.
  • Document repairs, installations, and PM activities with accurate, timely maintenance records.
  • Follow lockout/tagout and OSHA requirements at all times; champion a strong safety culture.
  • Coach and assist maintenance personnel in electrical troubleshooting and repair best practices.

What you’ll need

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or an associate degree in electrical technology preferred.
  • 3+ years’ experience as an industrial electrician in manufacturing or packaging environments.
  • Expertise with industrial power and controls, including 480V 3-phase, control panels, and automation systems.
  • Hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, and safety circuits.
  • Proficiency using test instruments such as multimeters, megohmmeters, and oscilloscopes.

Impact

Your work directly drives maximum equipment uptime in a fast-paced, high-speed production environment—keeping quality high and deliveries on schedule.
