Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Packaging Engineer 1. The work will be done onsite full-time in Champaign, IL. This is a 24-month long-term position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $29.50/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
Cullerton Group is seeking a Packaging Engineer to support packaging design, optimization, and standardization efforts within a large-scale distribution and manufacturing environment. This role focuses on developing and implementing packaging solutions for high-volume materials, supporting automation initiatives, and ensuring packaging meets quality and safety standards. The engineer will collaborate cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, and engineering teams to improve packaging performance and support new product and part introductions. This position offers a mix of hands-on shop floor interaction and project-based engineering work in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and specify packaging solutions for high-volume materials, including corrugated carton designs and packaging configurations
Support packaging setup and maintenance for new part introductions and kit packaging processes
Collaborate with operations and shop floor teams to identify and resolve packaging issues, improving efficiency and safety
Participate in cross-functional projects to support packaging standardization and automation initiatives
Analyze packaging performance and implement improvements to meet quality, cost, and operational requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience in industrial packaging design
12 years of experience in packaging engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, or related engineering roles (internships acceptable)
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate across multiple teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with data analysis tools (SQL, Python, SAS, or similar)
Experience with 2D/3D design tools (Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar)
Exposure to packaging design, logistics engineering, or distribution center operations
Strong relationship-building skills and ability to work in cross-functional environments
