Job Title: Packaging Engineer
Location: Onsite – Champaign, IL
Contract duration: 24 months with potential to extend or convert     
Job Summary
We are seeking a Packaging Engineer to support packaging design, standardization, and implementation within a high-volume distribution environment. This role will focus on developing efficient, cost-effective, and safe packaging solutions for parts and materials, while collaborating cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, and engineering teams. The ideal candidate is analytical, collaborative, and comfortable working both in an office setting and on the warehouse floor to drive continuous improvement and support packaging automation initiatives.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and specify packaging solutions for high-volume materials, including corrugated cartons and other protective materials
  • Support new part setup by defining and implementing appropriate packaging configurations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure packaging meets quality, safety, and operational requirements
  • Partner with operations and shop floor teams to identify and resolve packaging issues and inefficiencies
  • Contribute to packaging standardization efforts across multiple facilities
  • Assist in implementing packaging solutions that support automation and robotics
  • Monitor and ensure quality of packaging materials and processes
  • Participate in project teams and communicate progress and results to leadership
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
  • 0–2 years of experience in packaging, manufacturing, logistics, or related field (internships accepted)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to explain concepts to diverse audiences
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in packaging, manufacturing, or distribution environments
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g., SQL, Python, SAS)
  • Experience with 2D/3D design tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo)
  • Exposure to packaging automation or material handling systems
  • Strong relationship-building skills across cross-functional teams
