The Fountain Group is currently seeking a Packaging Engineer for a prominent client of ours. This position is in Foster City, CA 94404.Details of the position are as follows: 
 
Job Details:
  • Pay: $88.89–$96.30/hour based on experience
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday | Standard Business Hours
  • Duration: 1-year contract
  • Location: Foster City, CA
  • Work Environment: 100% Onsite
  • Travel: Up to 10%
 
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Cold Chain Packaging Engineer to develop, test, qualify, and support temperature-controlled (cold chain) packaging systems for the safe distribution of pharmaceutical and biologic products worldwide. This role focuses on packaging development, thermal qualification, shipping validation, technical documentation, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and Good Distribution Practices (GDP).

What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field
  • Advanced degree with relevant industry experience will also be considered
  • 5+ years of hands-on packaging engineering experience
  • Biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred
  • Experience developing or qualifying cold chain/temperature-controlled packaging systems
  • Strong knowledge of package development and thermal packaging principles
  • Working knowledge of temperature-controlled shipping container qualification standards and regulations
  • Understanding of Good Distribution Practices (GDP)
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience collaborating with external suppliers and/or contract testing laboratories is a plus
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, qualify, and support temperature-controlled (cold chain) packaging systems throughout the product lifecycle
  • Author packaging protocols, qualification reports, and technical documentation to support shipping validation and regulatory submissions
  • Design and execute thermal packaging qualification studies
  • Develop specifications for thermal protection system components
  • Analyze temperature monitoring data to support shipping and thermal qualification activities
  • Investigate shipping deviations and perform root cause analysis when needed
  • Author, review, and maintain SOPs related to shipping qualification activities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and testing laboratories to ensure packaging performance and regulatory compliance
  • Support continuous improvement of cold chain packaging systems and shipping processes
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience qualifying temperature-controlled shipping systems
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical packaging regulations and industry standards
  • Experience supporting regulatory filings and shipping validation documentation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, regulated environment
