Location: Houston, TX 77021 (Must live within 10–15 miles of location)

Shift: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM

Pay: $18 - $20/hour (based on experience)

Job Overview

We are currently hiring a Packaging Helper to support daily warehouse and distribution operations in a large steel manufacturing and distribution facility. This role is responsible for packaging products, preparing orders for shipment, assisting with shipping and receiving activities, and ensuring materials are accurately staged and organized for delivery. Employees work with heavy steel materials including structural steel beams, pipe, tubing, rebar, and other metal products in a fast-paced industrial environment. This is a hands-on position that requires attention to detail, teamwork, physical stamina, and a strong commitment to safety.

Work Environment

This position is located in a large open-air, non-climate-controlled steel manufacturing and distribution facility. Employees regularly work around heavy steel products, overhead cranes, industrial forklifts, loading operations, and semi-truck traffic moving throughout the facility. The environment is loud, busy, and physically demanding. Employees must remain alert and maintain constant awareness of their surroundings due to potential hazards including pinch points, suspended loads, moving equipment, truck traffic, loading operations, and heavy material handling activities. Safety is our highest priority. Candidates must be comfortable working in a heavy industrial environment where following safety procedures and maintaining situational awareness are essential.

Responsibilities

- Package products and materials according to customer and company requirements - Prepare finished orders for shipment, including labeling and documentation - Assist with shipping and receiving processes - Load and unload inbound and outbound materials - Stage, sort, and organize materials for efficient warehouse operations - Package and prepare steel products including beams, tubing, pipe, and rebar for shipment - Assist with loading steel materials onto outbound trucks and trailers - Operate forklifts to move materials and finished products (if experienced) - Safely work around overhead cranes, industrial forklifts, and commercial truck traffic - Maintain awareness of pinch points, suspended loads, and moving equipment at all times - Inspect packaged products for quality and accuracy - Maintain inventory organization and cleanliness throughout the warehouse - Follow all safety policies, PPE requirements, and procedures - Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

Equipment Used

- Sit-down forklifts - Pallet jacks - Shrink-wrap and packaging equipment - Shipping and receiving equipment - Industrial overhead cranes - Steel banding and load securement equipment - Commercial trailers and loading equipment

Training

- First 1–2 weeks: hands-on training and shadowing with supervisor or lead team member - Ongoing cross-training opportunities within warehouse operations

Requirements

- Ability to work in a warehouse environment - Ability to work safely in a heavy industrial steel manufacturing environment - Forklift experience preferred - Shipping and receiving experience preferred - Ability to lift, carry, and handle materials safely throughout the shift - Ability to work around large steel beams, pipe, tubing, rebar, overhead cranes, forklifts, and semi-truck traffic - Ability to maintain awareness of workplace hazards including pinch points, suspended loads, and moving equipment - Ability to work in an open-air, non-climate-controlled facility year-round - Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills - Strong commitment to workplace safety - Must pass background check and drug screen - Steel-toe boots required

Preferred Qualifications

- Previous packaging, warehouse, material handling, steel, manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial experience - Experience operating sit-down forklifts - Experience with shipping and receiving documentation - Experience working around heavy steel products and industrial equipment - Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Language Requirements

- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English for safety procedures, work instructions, and shipping documentation - Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
