Allweather Wood, LLC. (AWW) is looking for Packaging Laborers to join our full-line manufacturing and distribution facility in Coos Bay, OR. Allweather Wood is the largest producer and distributor of waterborne preservative treated wood products in the Western USA. Operating six wood preserving plants in California, Colorado, Oregon, Utah, and Washington, these state-of-the-art facilities enable year-round production of a variety of preservative systems, fire retardants and wood species, including Douglas-fir, Hem fir, and Southern Yellow Pine. With support from two full-service distribution centers in California, Allweather Wood partners with home improvement retailers, lumberyards, and building material dealers to bring a full range of preservative and fire-retardant lumber and plywood products to market.

Responsibilities

The Packaging Laborer keeps production areas clean and safe and assists in other areas of the warehouse in a safe and productive manner.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform lumber piece pulls
  • Apply and remove banding as needed
  • Operate and utilize the lumber track system
  • Operate forklifts safely and efficiently
  • Maintain cleanliness and perform general housekeeping duties
  • Complete barcoding activities accurately
  • Provide relief support for machine operators
  • Assist on the lumber wrap line
  • Support lumber treater operations as a helper
  • Conduct inventory and cycle counts
  • Work in various departments as needed
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area at all times

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or a minimum of one (1) month of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Forklift certification preferred, or the ability to successfully complete training and obtain certification
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to follow instructions provided in written, verbal, or diagram form and apply common sense understanding to carry out tasks
  • Basic reading and writing skills, including the ability to read instructions and memos and write simple sentences

  • Regularly required to stand for extended periods and walk short distances to inspect lumber
  • Frequently uses hands and fingers to control the flow of lumber through equipment, including operating buttons and control switches
  • Occasionally required to kneel, stoop, and bend to perform tasks such as feeding materials into racks or addressing equipment issues
  • Uses hand tools such as staplers, barcode scanners, and rubber mallets on an occasional basis
  • May operate a handheld tool (up to approximately 10 pounds) using repetitive or controlled motion
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • May be required to climb into and out of equipment such as forklifts or Bobcats
  • May be required to climb stairs, catwalks, or step over equipment components to access work areas or perform repairs
  • Requires the ability to detect unusual odors (e.g., burning or equipment malfunctions)
  • Requires specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration from machinery such as saws, conveyors, and hydraulic systems.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles, including sawdust, wood chips, bark, lubricants, fumes, and the risk of electrical shock.
  • The employee is also exposed to a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow, when working in or around outdoor areas of the facility.
  • Frequent interaction with powered industrial vehicles such as forklifts and Bobcats in active work zones.
  • Work surfaces may be uneven, slippery, or covered with debris, requiring heightened awareness and caution.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, requiring the consistent use of hearing protection in designated areas.
  • The employee is required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as mandated by company policy and OSHA Standards, which may include Safety glasses or face shields, hearing protection, safety gloves, steel-toe safety footwear, hard hats, and respiratory protection if necessary.
