Job Title: Packaging Line Worker / Line Leader

Job Description

This role leads and supports packaging line operations in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. You will coordinate daily activities on the packaging line, ensure products meet quality and regulatory standards, and maintain accurate documentation for all batches. You will work closely with production, mechanics, and Quality Assurance to keep lines running safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Responsibilities

  • Assign tasks and provide clear direction to packaging staff to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to production schedules.
  • Initiate and release production lines at the start of each shift and at the commencement of new batches.
  • Monitor line operations to verify correct product weights, lot numbers, expiration dates, and product scanning accuracy.
  • Calculate and record tare weights for packaging components in Filling Instructions to ensure accurate net weights.
  • Review batch documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance prior to submission to batch records.
  • Prepare and organize paperwork for upcoming batches to support smooth production transitions.
  • Set up and oversee cleaning and filling validation batches according to established protocols.
  • Receive and manage labels for specific orders, verifying label and packaging component counts against pick lists and reports.
  • Process and return unused labels to the designated Label Room or Batch Clerk's Office, maintaining strict label control.
  • Confirm the accuracy and suitability of packaging components and product against the Filling Instructions before and during production.
  • Print pallet tickets and quarantine tags for finished product to support traceability and inventory control.
  • Record production counts electronically or in pallet logs and update line status in logbooks in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Conduct line clearances between batches, ensuring all materials are removed or properly identified, and document any returned stock.
  • Perform SAP transactions, including Return to Stock (RTS), using scanning devices to maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Set up electronic marquees with correct product information for each production line to ensure clear communication.
  • Calibrate scales and checkweighers daily or whenever they are relocated, documenting all calibration activities.
  • Inspect cleaned parts on the production line to confirm readiness for use and compliance with cleanliness standards.
  • Monitor daily packaging throughput, changeovers, and labor utilization, and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide constructive performance feedback on operators to support continuous improvement and development.
  • Collaborate closely with production management, mechanics, and Quality Assurance to resolve issues and maintain high-quality output.
  • Assist in training new employees on packaging procedures, GMP, safety practices, and documentation requirements.
  • Support a culture of inclusion, integrity, and collaboration by working respectfully with colleagues and contributing to a positive team environment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts focused on operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and innovation in packaging operations.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 1 year of experience working in production for a pharmaceutical company.
  • Hands-on experience with pharmaceutical packaging operations, including bottling, packing, and general packaging line work.
  • Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in a regulated environment.
  • Ability to perform quality checks, including verification of weights, lot numbers, expiration dates, and label accuracy.
  • Experience in a Line Leader or similar role with responsibility for directing packaging staff.
  • Familiarity with Quality Assurance principles as they apply to pharmaceutical packaging.
  • Ability to calculate and record tare weights and maintain accurate production and batch records.
  • Experience using systems such as SAP or similar tools for inventory and Return to Stock (RTS) transactions.
  • Capability to calibrate scales and checkweighers and document calibration activities.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation, labeling, and component verification.
  • Effective communication skills to provide direction, feedback, and training to team members.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus and can support communication across diverse teams.
  • Experience with batching, compounding, or other production-related activities in a pharmaceutical setting.
  • Prior exposure to electronic marquees, scanning devices, and electronic logging systems.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment with strict quality and documentation standards.

Work Environment

This role is based in a pharmaceutical manufacturing and packaging facility that operates multiple shifts. The position requires the ability to work on the 1st shift (6:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.) for approximately four weeks for training, as this shift has the most experienced trainers; training on other shifts may be possible but training on 1st shift is preferred. After training, you may work on any of the three shifts: 1st shift (6:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.), 2nd shift (3:00 p.m. - 11:45 p.m.), or 3rd shift (10:30 p.m. - 7:15 a.m.), and you should be open to working rotating holidays as part of the production schedule. The workday includes a 45-minute lunch break and two 15-minute breaks. The environment involves working on packaging lines with bottling, filling, labeling, and palletizing equipment, as well as scales, checkweighers, electronic marquees, and scanning devices integrated with systems such as SAP. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.00/hr.
