Packaging Operator

Job Summary:

Sets up, runs and monitors machinery that packages product for distribution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Verifies that sufficient product is available to run through packaging machine and correct film is being used.
• Makes sure belts, rollers and product side of the film are clean and free of any debris.
• Performs minor machine adjustments to the wrapper and film alignment to ensure that product is being packaged according to specifications.
• Monitors and inspects product package quality out of sealing head, ensuring film alignment is within specification.
• Operates packaging machine at a manageable speed to ensure best productivity, while still meeting production efficiency expectations.
• Assists other positions in the department as necessary to maintain flow of product into the packaging machine.
• Compiles all downtime information relative to the line and to the packaging machine.
• Ensures that the finished product conforms to the instructions provided in the work order.
• Ability to pay close attention to detail and have good hand-eye coordination.
• Must be able to visually and physically inspect product and packaging as it is being packaged and identify quality concerns.
• Must be able to submit all paperwork to supervisor at end of shift and report reasons for downtime.
• Must be organized and able to keep work areas clean and free of congestion.
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to effectively communicate with other employees.
• Ability to understand the components necessary for the packaging line.
• Must be able to troubleshoot machine production concerns when they arise

Physical Requirements:

• Sound hand-eye coordination and able to cope with moderate physical effort.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend and stoop as needed.
