Position Summary

A Packaging Plant Operator is responsible for following the Plant Schedule and ensuring the packaged product meets plant order requirements and product falls within the specifications outlined in the Production Sampling and Lab Testing Guidelines – DP409001. Packaging Plant Operator reports to the Packaging Complex Production Supervisor. This is a 2nd Shift position 2:30p - 10:30p.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for leading your shift and helping others out where needed to get production out.
  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with the Mandatory Minimum Standards Required, within his/her sphere of influence.
  • In charge of monitoring their equipment for visible emissions, shutting down equipment with visible emissions and reporting emissions to their area coordinator.
  • Deal with petroleum spills properly.
  • Receives instruction from Packaging Complex Coordinator and/or Lead Person as to the amount and type of product to be packaged as outlined by the daily work order sheets.
  • Performs start up of palletizing and packing equipment.
  • Visually inspects equipment throughout the shift.
  • Performs necessary adjustments and changes such as: Changing pallet patterns Changing pallet types Stretch wrapping.
  • Set up printing equipment (Lot and customer codes) Recharges bag magazine Sends samples of packaging product to Lab as required.
  • Dumps non-conforming product, restocks product, and codes bags as needed.
  • Performs recommended preventative maintenance.
  • Prepares required daily packaging reports and logs.
  • Diagnoses and corrects facility operations problems with assistance of Packaging Complex Coordinator and Maintenance personnel.
  • Directs, assists, and performs duties of other Packaging Plant personnel as needed.
  • Employees must learn and observe all applicable company policies and safe practices and perform all duties assigned by supervisor.
  • Knowledgeable of the ISO quality system as required to ensure compliance to the ISO 9001 quality standard.
  • Follows FSMA guidelines in the daily production of product.
  • When you are needed to help load trucks, we need to make sure we are filling out paperwork that corresponds with that load. This includes and is not limited to the load sheets making sure they are filled out correctly, lot #'s of pallets, etc. Making sure that we have loaded the right line of the order is a must. Also making sure pallets are neat and undamaged.
  • Inspects Van trucks both FSMA and non-FSMA before loading them by following the plant instructions and procedures in place.
Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

High School Diploma or GED required. Must be qualified to operate a forklift. Class B CDL license preferred. Ability to read, comprehend and follow safety policy manuals, MSHA regulations, SOP's, SDS, and various production schedules/reports.

Physical Requirements

Works in all inside and outside areas of the plant and is exposed to heat, cold, inclement weather, noise, vibrations, grease, oil, crushed and ground limestone spillage and somewhat dirty conditions. Requires ability to climb stationary ladders up to at least 60'. Must be able to repetitively lift 50 pounds. Must be able to move 50 pounds occasionally. Must be able to frequently stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and crawl. Must be able to work in a dusty environment where temperatures vary from extremely hot to cold, work in humidity and around various chemicals. Frequent operation of forklifts for moving raw and finished materials is required. Frequently requires cleanup of limestone spillage which includes sweeping and shoveling material.

U.S. Market-Based Salary Range Packaging Plant Operator [$26.96 - $29.65] In addition to base compensation, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and profit-sharing payout.
