Position Overview
Stand-By Personnel is seeking a dependable Packer Operator to join an industrial metal distribution and processing operation in the Verdigris/Claremore area. This position is responsible for preparing custom-cut metal products for safe shipment to industrial customers.
Unlike basic retail or consumer packaging, this is a hands-on industrial material-handling position involving aluminum extrusions, sheet metal, stainless steel bars, tubing, and other metal products. The Packer Operator ensures materials are properly inspected, protected, bundled, strapped, labeled, and prepared to prevent scratching, bending, or other damage during transportation.
The ideal candidate has previous warehouse, industrial packaging, or metal-handling experience and is comfortable working with heavy materials, banding equipment, forklifts, cranes, and precision measurements.
Required Experience & Skills
Previous warehouse, packaging, manufacturing, or material-handling experience preferred
1+ year of industrial or warehouse experience strongly preferred
Ability to accurately read a tape measure, including measurements down to 1/16 inch
Basic math and measurement skills
Ability to inspect metal products for damage and dimensional accuracy
Comfortable using hand tools and industrial packaging equipment
Strong attention to detail and order accuracy
Ability to read pick tickets, work orders, and shipping instructions
Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
Ability to work independently and as part of a warehouse team
Strong commitment to workplace safety
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Prepare custom-cut metal products for shipment to industrial customers
Package aluminum extrusions, sheet metal, stainless steel bars, tubing, and related materials
Wrap finished products using protective plastic, shrink wrap, corrugated cardboard, paper sheeting, and other packaging materials
Protect metal surfaces from scratching, bending, impact, and other transportation damage
Bundle products according to customer and shipping requirements
Secure materials onto wooden skids and pallets
Operate manual and pneumatic banding equipment
Apply steel or polyester strapping to metal bundles
Verify completed packages are secure and ready for transportation
Maintain clean, organized, and safe packing and staging areas
Perform additional packaging and material-handling duties as assigned
Order Verification & Quality Responsibilities
Review pick tickets and customer work orders before packaging materials
Verify correct alloy and material type
Confirm dimensions and item quantities
Review special customer packaging and delivery instructions
Visually inspect metal surfaces for scratches, burrs, damage, or other defects
Verify measurements using tape measures, calipers, or other measuring equipment
Identify and report incorrect or damaged materials before shipment
Maintain accuracy throughout the packaging process
Labeling & Documentation
Generate and apply accurate shipping tags
Attach barcode and identification labels
Maintain proper heat-number identification when required
Ensure material certifications accompany applicable orders
Verify labels and documentation match the packaged material
Help maintain product traceability throughout the shipping process
Equipment & Tools
Candidates may work with:
Manual and pneumatic banding tools
Steel and polyester strapping equipment
Stretch wrappers
Basic hand tools
Tape measures and calipers
Pallet jacks
Sit-down forklifts
Side-loaders
Overhead cranes
Previous forklift or overhead crane experience is preferred, although candidates willing and able to complete required training may also be considered.

Industrial metal packaging experience
Metal distribution or processing experience
Warehouse or heavy manufacturing experience
Experience handling aluminum, stainless steel, tubing, sheet metal, or similar materials
Pneumatic strapping or banding experience
Forklift operating experience
Overhead crane experience
Side-loader experience
Shipping and order-verification experience
Material certification or heat-number documentation experience
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and move 50+ lbs as required
Ability to stand and remain physically active throughout the shift
Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling
Ability to safely handle long, heavy, or awkward metal products
Manual dexterity required for wrapping, banding, strapping, measuring, and labeling
Ability to safely operate material-handling equipment when trained and authorized
Comfortable performing repetitive physical work in an industrial environment
Work Environment
Industrial metal distribution and processing environment
Regular work around aluminum, stainless steel, sheet metal, bars, tubing, and other raw or processed metals
Hands-on position involving packaging, banding, material handling, inspection, and shipping preparation
Regular interaction with forklifts, cranes, side-loaders, pallet jacks, and industrial equipment
Physically active environment requiring consistent attention to safety and product protection
Strong emphasis on order accuracy, material quality, proper packaging, and safe shipment preparation
