The PACU RN provides direct, top-of-scope nursing care to patients in the immediate post-anesthesia recovery phase utilizing the nursing process in a fast-paced perioperative environment. Practice is guided by AORN and ABPANC core curriculum and evidence-based standards.
Responsibilities: Monitor vital signs, level of consciousness, airway patency, and hemodynamic stability post-surgery. Assess for and respond to complications including pain, nausea, hemorrhage, respiratory depression, and emergence delirium. Administer analgesics, antiemetics, and reversal agents. Manage Phase I and Phase II recovery care. Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and perioperative team. Educate patients and families on post-op care and discharge instructions. Document assessments and interventions in EHR. Precept new staff.
Requirements: Active Colorado RN license. BLS required. ACLS and PALS within 6 months of hire. Minimum 6 months RN experience. BSN preferred.
