Paint Line Water Systems Operator

Location & Role

Department: Paint
Location: Gastonia, NC
Job Type: Full-time

A Day in the Life

When the paint line powers up, you’re already a step ahead—verifying filtration performance, checking chemical feed pumps, and confirming yesterday’s test logs. You adjust dosage on a treatment skid, run a quick titration, and fine-tune set points so paint adhesion and environmental discharge both hit specification. Mid-morning, you swap out a filter, log conductivity and pH readings, and investigate a valve that’s not responding the way it should. After lunch, you complete preventative maintenance on a pump, update documentation, and walk the area to ensure storage and labeling of chemicals align with OSHA and company procedures. Before shift-end, you double-check wastewater parameters and leave the system optimized for the next production run.

Your Core Responsibilities

  • System Operation: Operate, monitor, and optimize water treatment systems that support the paint line, including filtration, chemical dosing, and wastewater management.
  • Quality Control & Testing: Perform regular water quality tests and chemical titrations to sustain precise standards for paint performance and compliant discharge.
  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Conduct preventative maintenance, diagnose issues, and complete minor repairs on pumps, valves, and filtration equipment to avoid downtime.
  • Safe Chemical Handling: Store, handle, and inventory chemicals safely in accordance with OSHA and company safety procedures; ensure accurate dosing.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Keep thorough records of treatment activities, test data, chemical usage, and maintenance schedules.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Remain current on applicable environmental regulations and permits; help the facility meet or exceed standards.
  • Safety Culture: Model safe work practices and contribute to a hazard-free environment.

What You Bring

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications or specialized training in water treatment/wastewater preferred.
  • Experience: Hands-on background operating water treatment systems, ideally in industrial manufacturing or chemical processing.
  • Technical Skills: Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot pumps, valves, and filtration components.
  • Attention to Detail: Skilled at reading gauges, conducting chemical tests, and maintaining precise documentation.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to [e.g., 50 lbs], stand for extended periods, and safely handle industrial chemicals using proper PPE.
