EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY :
Responsible for the application, service, repair, maintenance and inspections of wall covering, paint and corrosion control systems on an array of building structural and architectural systems. These systems include but are not limited to interior and exterior walls, student and athletic lockers, wooden and metal personnel access doors, windows, foundations, partitions and structural barriers, ladders, hatches, ceramic and masonry partitions. Includes flooring, handrails and devices supporting the American Disabilities Act (ADA).

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for the application, repair and maintenance of surface finishing systems throughout the District.
2. Works on and around the surface finishing systems of doors which include wooden or metal surfaces, sliding, overhead, roll-up, accordion, fire and storefront; windows to include metal, wooden, casement, projection and sliding; metal lockers for sports and personnel; restrooms; bleachers and display cases; tables, podiums, benches and chairs including those used in lunchrooms; auditoriums; theaters; gymnasiums; designated parking areas; sports facilities; all areas within and including the exterior structural confines of NEISD property - surface finishing systems and surface protection include but are not limited to primers, vinyl interior and exterior wall coverings, paints, lacquers, stains, varnishes, rubber, decals, anti-mold treatments and sealants.
3. Removes graffiti from District property using approved graffiti removal products.
4. Stains and/or finishes cabinets, doors and fixtures to support the Carpentry Shop.
5. Acid etches and/or grinds concrete surfaces to prepare for the application on non-skid coatings.
6. Fabrication of sound deadening panels.
7. Paints, stains and seals concrete surfaces.
8. Paints and/or properly rejuvenates flag and electrical light pole surfaces.
9. Consults with campuses to ensure proper paint and sundries are used and purchased on self-help projects.
10. Installs drywall, repairs, tapes, floats and textures various drywall systems.
11. Lays out and marks parking spaces, directional arrows and crosswalks on various surfaces utilizing a powered striping machine and ensures compliance with local, state and federal guidelines.
12. Resurfaces chalkboards.
13. Plans and accomplishes work from initial layout to final assembly which involves interpreting and applying building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches and/or manufacturer's instructions.
14. Determines the methods, techniques, materials, devices, and sequences best suited to the work.
15. Plans and insures the proper design functionality and quality of the systems installed.
16. Uses the most practical, accepted and up-to-date methods of the trade.
17. Employs approved techniques to fabricate odd size jointing parts and improvises installations when blue prints and sketches do not provide or fail to show data to do the work.
18. Applies finishes in such a fashion to ensure minimum imperfections or voids (less than 2%), maximum durability and life, and a finished product aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
19. Performs job site cleanup of over spray, masking materials, drips, runs, scraps, chips, paint dust, sand blast residue leaving work area clean and ready for occupancy.
20. Ensures good housekeeping and employs health and safety practices.
21. Responsible for securing and maintaining all assigned personal tools, equipment and District vehicles in serviceable order.
22. Required to perform shop and industrial housekeeping practices that are in the areas associated with the systems being maintained to include the maintenance of all hand tools, brushes and spray apparatus.
23. Individually responsible to ensure that all combustible and flammable materials are properly stored and secured in a safe manner and properly disposed of as outlined in EPA guidelines.
24. Consults with supervisor as needed relative to interpretation or guidance and extent of work authorized if work requires more than the number of hours allowed by the maintenance service order.
25. Maintains confidentiality of information.
26. Regularly required to drive District vehicle in the performance of assigned tasks.
27. Reports to work on time every day.
28. Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: - Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination to include vision, hearing, alcohol and drug testing
- Expert knowledge of the trade practices used in surface finishing system installation repair and maintenance
- Proficient in surface cleaning and preparation, repair and application of various surface textures surface material application, touch-up painting techniques, color identification, graffiti removal and cleanup
- Familiar with powered striping machines utilized in marking parking spaces and curbs on various surfaces
- Skills necessary to work closely with other trades for layout of new or replacement of existing equipment and/or structures
- Good communication skills to discuss and define relevant issues with appropriate supervisory personnel and/or school administrators
- Ability to read project plans for new or remodeled areas related to position and recommend application practices is required
- Ability to read in order to comprehend product labels and instructions, material safety data sheets, shop procedures and policies
- Ability to tape, float and texture various drywall systems
- Valid Texas Driver's License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently required to drive District vehicles in the performance of assigned tasks. Additionally, the individual may be required to submit to drug and alcohol screening at any time throughout employment without prior notification. Personal protective equipment is required to be worn when performing tasks that subject employee to injury.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock. Tasks are performed inside and outside where worker may be subject to cuts, abrasions, bruises from hand or power tools. When required, wears protective clothing and equipment which may be uncomfortable. May be required to work under inclement conditions. Danger of injury from falls from ladders or from other elevated equipment. Employee is exposed to inhalation and physical contact with parts cleansing solvents, paint thinner, that may pose a health hazard. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. May be required to work outside of normal duty hours and/or weekends or holidays in order to handle emergencies that may arise.
