Summary

This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), House Office Buildings and Senate Office Buildings, Painting Branch. The AOC seeks temporary Painters for the upcoming 120th Congressional Moves Transition.

Painters will use standard methods and special finishing techniques to perform coating work on furnishings and buildings.

This requires a 6 day a week schedule, and overtime may be required and in some instances it may be mandatory.

Duties

These positions aretemporary for the 120th House and Senate Congressional Moves. The job term may end when projects are completed, or funding expires.

This position will be used to fill Day and Night shifts.

Shifts and Hours will be determined and or changed based on Operational Needs of Management.

Journeyman level experience is required for the position.

Responsibilities:

-Performs a variety of work assignments involving brush, roller and spray painting. Determines color and consistency of paint required.

-Selects paints from plans and specifications. Mixes pigments, thinners, and oils to produce paint that will flow evenly and consistently to ensure surfaces that have a smooth-textured and decorative appearance.

-Checks masking and preparation of surface to be painted. Applies paint, selecting the proper materials and equipment to achieve an even distribution. Applies finishes to wood, metal, equipment, in interior and exterior locations using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.

- Evaluates existing painted surfaces for damage. Alters, repairs, and maintains new and historical painted surfaces. Matches colors, shading and texture of interior finishes as required.

- Trims, sands, and smooths surfaces using hand tools, caulk, sand paper, and spackle knives.

- Follows all relevant safety rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures. Must utilize knowledge of and must comply with all OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner. Ensures the use of any required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Performs other duties as required.

Please Note: This position is temporary and subject to the project needs of the Agency. If project work continues, however, it could be extended beyond the 13 months-time frame at the sole discretion of the Agency.

Qualifications

You must meet all eligibility and qualifications requirements by the closing date of the job announcement.

You must meet the SCREEN OUT required for this position which includes:

-Ability to perform the work of a journey-level painter with an appropriate Level of Supervision
