POSITION DESCRIPTION
The GSRP Para assists the teacher in developing daily lesson plans, preparing materials, and providing children with developmentally appropriate experiences. The GSRP Para works with the staff to maintain materials, equipment, and facilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Child Development Associate (CDA) credential OR an associates degree (AA) in early childhood education or child development or the equivalent preferred, OR an existing 120 Clock Hour approval letter from the MDE, or willingness to obtain within 3 school years.
Experience in using and knowledge of High Scope Curriculum, as well as Child Observation Record (COR) assessment system preferred.
Experience working with preschool-aged children and their families.
Current certification in infant, child and adult CPR and first aid training.
Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job and consent to background check and TB test, according to childcare licensing rules.
Ability to relate to young children, teachers, parents and office staff.
Ability to follow directions from classroom teacher.
Enthusiastic personality and evidence of initiative.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist teacher in developing daily lessons plans, preparing materials, and providing children with developmentally appropriate experiences using High Scope curriculum.
Work with teacher to maintain materials, equipment and facilities as required by childcare licensing.
Share responsibility for the physical, social and emotional welfare of all of the students.
Attend staff meetings and in services when required.
On an as-needed basis, para may be required to attend to a student whose needs include routine medical procedures or assistance with regular hygiene.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICAL AND REASONING SKILLS
Ability to speak and write effectively.
Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
