POSITION DESCRIPTION
Provide support to special education students with multiple needs and/or classroom assistance to implement student IEPs. Under the direction of certified staff and administrators, the Paraprofessional supports instructional programming, reinforces academic and behavioral interventions, assists with personal care needs when required, and helps create a safe, nurturing, inclusive, and academically challenging learning environment consistent with the mission of Enfield Public Schools.
Additional duties may be assigned by the classroom teacher, building principal, Director of Pupil Services, or designee.

JOB GOAL
To assist teaching staff by performing duties relating to academic and behavioral support.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Credentials
- Earned a secondary school diploma, or its equivalent.
- Must meet one of the following requirements:
- Completed two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education; or
- Earned an Associate''s Degree or higher; or
- Successfully completed the ParaPathways Assessment.
- Ability to work well with others in a cooperative manner.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working with children.
- Experience supporting students with disabilities and/or diverse learning needs.
- Computer and general office skills.
- Knowledge of instructional strategies, behavior supports, and inclusive educational practices.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assists teacher with the development and presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises.
- Assists in the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, and other similar activities.
- Corrects papers and supervises testing and makeup work as assigned by the teacher.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
- Confers regularly with the teacher regarding student progress.
- Reinforces students'' individual behavior modification plans and behavioral supports as prescribed.
- Attends Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings as required.
- Introduces and reinforces concepts and lessons to students.
- Constructs, copies, distributes, and utilizes educational materials.
- Assists teachers with parent contact as directed.
- Performs toileting, hygiene, wash-up, and other personal care duties as required to support student needs while maintaining student dignity, health, and safety.
- Participates in staff development programs as assigned.
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
- Performs other related Instructional Assistant duties as required.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Monitors students on buses and/or vans as assigned.
- Assists teachers in maintaining inventories of instructional materials.
- Assists other classes within the building as needed as determined by the principal.
- Fills in for teachers on a short-term emergency basis only.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds with assistive equipment and/or assistance from another adult.
- Ability to assist students with mobility, positioning, transfers, and activities of daily living as required by student needs and assigned duties.
