HOURS: Monday through Friday, 6.5 hours per day plus a half hour unpaid lunch

COMPENSATION: Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School Committee and the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional Secretaries and Assistants Association located on the DY website ($25.70-$32.30/hour).

All paraprofessionals must meet certification requirements as determined by the Every Student Succeeds Act. Individuals with an Associate's degree or higher, or who have obtained 48 credit hours from an accredited higher education institution, have met this requirement and will need to provide a copy of a transcript showing your highest degree earned. The finalpathway to meet this requirement is passing the Massachusetts ParaPro or Workkeys Assessment certification within the first year of employment. Information regarding the process can be found HERE. Please provide the Human Resources office with a copy of your passing scores, once obtained. SUMMARY: Supports students with and without disabilities. Perform any combination of the following instructional tasks in a classroom, to assist teaching staff. Support may occur in an early education setting, inclusion setting, substantially separate classroom or home. This may be 1:1 or in a small group.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Confer with EL team leader and EL teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs, advocate for student, translate at parent meetings, attend meetings, and in service training related to method, techniques, and curriculum or student related issues of the EL program as required.
  • Discuss assigned teaching area with classroom teacher to coordinate instruction efforts.
  • Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids such as bibliographies, charts, and graphs.
  • Presents subject matter to students utilizing variety of methods and techniques such as lecture, discussion, and supervised role playing.
  • Assists EL students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
  • Provides direct instructional support to EL students in the classroom or in a separate setting.
  • Implements and/or adapts modifications and accommodations to the environment or curricular materials as directed by the EL coordinator or EL teacher.
  • Supports the behavioral/social-emotional needs of children by utilizing pro-active, pro-social problem solving skills.
  • Support EL students by providing assistance with equipment (i.e. assistive technology).
  • Assist with the supervision of students during play and lunch periods.
  • Foster student independence while supporting individual needs.
  • Maintain proper confidentiality of student records.
  • Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPR, First Aid Certification desirable.
  • Participate in annual training, for blood borne pathogens, universal precautions, 51A, bullying, epi-pen, etc.
  • Must be highly qualified.
  • Associate's degree, 2 years of college or passing score on the ParaPro test.
  • Bilingual preferred in Portuguese, Spanish, and/or Haitian Creole.
  • Knowledge of child development (intellectual, social/emotional, and physical) and 12 months experience working with EL students is desirable.
