Position Type: Classroom Assistant/Special Education ParaeducatorReports To: Building PrincipalStatus: School Year 2026-27Start Date: August 2026 Location: Lakeland High SchoolSalary: HVPEA ContractWork Dates: Monday - FridayHours: 32.5 hours/week Date Posted: 8/17/2026 Closing Date: 8/21/2026 External: Until filled MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMust have ability to work with students with physical, cognitive, emotional, learning and/or developmental disabilitiesPrevious experience working with this age or special education students in general is preferredMust have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with various school officials, principals, teachers and office personnelMust possess initiative to accept and carry out varied assignments along with a consistent, systematic approach to the tasks performedMust sign Consent to Bill for Medicaid and complete Medicaid billing monthlyMust be willing to attend Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training after school as certification expires. Other behavioral techniques may require training after school hours.Must be willing to use Nonviolent Crisis Intervention skills to socially and physically manage students who are escalated as directed by the teacher/administratorOther duties assigned by the special education teacher or the building principal ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSComplement, supplement and reinforce student's instruction under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher in both special education and general education classrooms.Assist with the preparation of material; clean up after students, etc.Assist with the general supervision of the students including lunchtime, passing time, etc.On an as needed basis para-professional employees may be required to attend to a student whose needs include routine medical procedure or assistance with regular hygiene.Track academic or behavioral data as directed by teacherComplete Medicaid billing monthly EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School diploma and/or related experience.LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICAL AND REASONING SKILLS: Ability to speak and write effectively. Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
