Paralegal

ROLE

We need an experienced Paralegal at the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado (USAO CO). The USAO prosecutes and defends cases on behalf of the federal government, and this role supports the Civil Division in representing the federal government in civil cases filed in the District of Colorado. In this role, you will support Assistant U.S. Attorneys by performing a wide variety of tasks including research, case organization, tracking court-imposed deadlines, preparing pleadings, document review, and exhibit preparation. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review and organize large quantities of emails and other documents
  • Create and use spreadsheets and databases
  • Gather factual information and material, including agency records, court records, and other public records
  • Read, analyze, and summarize materials including court pleadings, court orders, transcripts, files, and other factual materials, and draft memoranda as needed
  • Work with federal agencies to locate and organize information and ensure compliance with court orders
  • Perform specialized research, including factual and legal research, and write memoranda
  • Provide automated litigation assistance to attorneys in briefs, presentations, and hearings; prepare documents, exhibits, charts, and visual materials using various software applications and graphics hardware
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma - required
  • Undergraduate degree or Paralegal certificate - preferred

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE / SKILLS

  • Proficiency with court filing systems and case management tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Word processing and data entry/retrieval
  • Ability to review and analyze data and information from multiple sources

CLEARANCE

  • S. Citizenship required; must be able to pass a Department of Justice background investigation (NACI)

  • Salary range: $55,000 – $65,000

Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 80% of the time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc. Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of the time.
