What You’ll Do

The paralegal in this position works as a legal assistant for the domestic violence prosecutions and prosecutions involving child victims or juvenile defendants that are pending in the local juvenile and domestic relations district court. Another responsibility of this position will be to serve as the paralegal for victim restitution orders, including tracking the need for orders and preparation of some restitution orders. Key responsibilities include:
 
Document Preparation and Management
Create and manage various legal documents, ensuring their accuracy in terms of spelling, punctuation, format, and grammar. It also includes drafting correspondence for attorney review, maintaining confidential case files, and compiling data for reports on case progress.
Court and Case Coordination
Prepare and review case files, managing court calendars, arranging continuances, and attending court to support legal staff. It also involves coordinating court filings and updating court case schedules.
Communication and Client Interaction
Answer phones, greet visitors, and handle public inquiries. Building and maintaining relationships with judges, clerks, and law enforcement personnel is also emphasized.
Administrative Support and Financial Management
Operate office equipment, organize workspaces, and perform financial management tasks such as budgeting and grant administration. It also requires monitoring expenditures and liaising with the finance department while maintaining proficiency in legal research and case management systems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in paralegal studies or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Possession of a paralegal certification (RP or CP) is preferred
  • Preference for applicants with 3 to 5 years of experience in an administrative position in a law office
  • Must pass a criminal background check and driving record check
